Good luck...I tried everything and finally put on skinnier white walls.

Oh yeah don't 'curb' anything...:) Seems like big whitewalls are a curb magnet.

Yes to the sos pad, No to the bleach white. In the long run it's bad for your tires. Basically mild detergent and the scrub sponge is the best way.

I'd bet you'd wear out your tires before the bleche white ruins them. (unless its a trailer queen or a museum piece)

  8. White rubber is more porous than black, and getting dirt out of the rubber is a bitch. The trick being; never let them get too dirty! If the car is sitting around in the garage, try coating them with liquid dish soap as a protectant. Westley's is great, and I agree that those bias plies aren't going to last long enough to worry about any side effects.

Spray 9 works well too. I use that with a good household scrub brush. Keep them clean too. I use the spray 9 on a rag and just wipe them clean. I hate disc brake dust on 2 1/2 inch whites.

I had some 1/2 inch whites turned into 1" whites by a local lowrider shop problem is after a few months the outer edge has turned brown on all 4, I've tried simple green, bleach white, scrubbed with brillo pad and just about everything else and it won't come any cleaner. Any other options besides live with it until I get some new tires.

  14. Been doing it this way for many many years. The only way! It has removed everything from grease, oil, red clay and cleaned up old tires that have been stored for a while.
If you don't at least try cleaning them this way it will be a long dirty road.

I have tried Bleeche white and Simple green and they do a good job but they are both messy and Simple Green leaves your car smelling like a Chemical Lab. Believe it or not....I used the Hand Cleaner that they sell at Auto Zone (it's thier store indorsed brand but i forgot the name) it's in a blue and white container and it has aloe in it...It's always on sale and at the counter!! This shit is awesome! Leaves your tires moist and soft so they don't dry out (probably the Aloe) and it smells real good. I started using it on my Suede Paint Job because since i didn't have windows...I didn't hose my car down, I just used the Hand cleaner and then used it on my tires....It 's works bitchen for both paint and whites.....and it's real soft and non abrasive. Try it and see plus it's easy to carry with you at shows for last minute detail.

I have been using the westleys and scrub pad for years with good results.

The hand cleaner approach listed above sounds interesting. All of the hand cleaners that I have used in the past had a sand-like consistency. Never seen the soft version that is mentioned.

here in the south we use a product called sta white whitewall cleaner . developed years ago by a local specifically to do tires. it's biodegradeable and doesn't do damage to the tires like wesleys bleach white. It's also a heck of a cleaner/degreaser. from what i understand it's made from natural ingredients. anybody interested pm me and i'll get a address for you to purchase it from.

I can't stand that smell, but maybe I should try that on my tires.

Most probably no need to tell you guys as you most probably already know ..... but .....

Dont use any silicone spray or silicone based tyre shine on your whites, as that's what turns them yellow.

It makes you look like you have a smoking problem ....

  30. Coker sells a nice product, tyre white, not hard on our rubber!! A scotch brite type pad is a good idea. Westlys bleach stuff is really rude to your tires and dehydrates them badly. I don't think the whites have to be perfect anyway. Hey I drive the heap, whatta ya want, perfect? Then check out the whites on that car in the trailer!!-Sololobo
