Hey guys, I have a 47 Chevy pickup and have been reading up on the whole s-10 frame swap topic. My question (probably a stupid one) is about the chevy astro vans. Did they share the same frame as the s10 and if so do you know the wheelbase? Thanks in advance.

Astro vans have no frame they are unibody. Different lug pattern also. Wikipedia is pretty good for checking wheelbase for specific vehicles.

Astros do have a front sub-frame like a 70's Camero that just unbolts. 5 on 5 bolt pattern unlike an s-10. I think same width, but not totaly sure.

Thanks guys for the quick response. I just located a 2wd s-10 longbox frame for cheap so that should work. For those who have done this swap- Should I shell out the money for one of the swap kits (AD engineering) or should it be fairly easy to reuse the s-10 mounts and the running board mounts from my 47 frame?

Could someone explain how using a s-10 frame is traditional. It's proly
    an import.

shoprat..is putting a 29 Ford body on a 32 Ford frame traditional? Frame swapping has been done for years. Sure it may not be what they did back in the day but niether are tig welders, plazma cutters and all the tools that the ultra cool hard core traditionalists use.
    It's just plain hot rodding!

Whatever, just not in my world. My cars are on the frames they came with.
I certainly don't mind A's on Duece rails though. Jmo

I think that putting an S-10 is more problem that modifying the original. I can't see how carving and rewelding, plus the cost of the rolling chassis is cheaper/better than getting an IFS from Fatman or some place similar. I think you'll find that the front track will be narrower than the '47. But hey, your truck your money.

wow... another thread turned into this versus that.
i used the s10 chassis because it was what i had .plus i knew it inside and out. i owned it for 5 years. the original 51 frame was way beyond repair. i didn`t use any kits . it really is pretty simple. it may not be for the ticket for some but , not really my concern as i drive mine everyday.
