  5. ORRRRRR SIMPLY go to the hardware store, pick up some rustolium 'satin black or semi-gloss or flat" brush on gal or qt, thin it down and shoot it through the sprayer. It comes out pretty good. Satin can look pretty *****in as far as Cheap routes of the 'primer' look.

    Here's TSC satin-flat Black on a 59 F-100.......

If you choose to use primer make sure to use Epoxy, it will weather better than regular primers like laquer.

Tractor Supply "Low Gloss Black" or Rustoleum "Satin Black" from Lowes. Cheap Cheap Cheap, but looks good.

I think he means John Deere "Blitz Black" .I sprayed the Ranchero with some the other day and it sprays real well for the price. It is real thin in the can so dont thin it too much .I also added hardener to it .It looks right to me (not flat but not gloss either ).I will post a pic of it later for you so you can see if its the look your after...

rustolium has a rubbery base and if you try to paint over it, you'll have to strip it all down to put reg auto paint back on, dont mean to knock it but its cheap and i have been their and done it.

i would use regular automotive paint, even on my budget im still going to just so i dont have the past problems

Dont use primer unless you want to re spray it every year to keep it from looking like ****. Primer will not keep your car from rusting. It's porous and absorbs water. I've used John Deere Blitz Black on a few projects, sprays nice and the price is nice to!. Have also painted over it without any problems. Another option is to use a 2 stage gloss black and clear coat with a flattened clear. Good Luck!

It's not cheap, but I recommend Dupont Hot Hues (hot rod black). Shoots great, it's durable, offers more UV protection than rustoleum, etc.

I recently shot some SEM Hot Rod Black for a public sculpture I am working on. Good product, covers great, a little more semi-gloss than satin. Durable final finish.

This is John Deere Blitz Black with hardener added shot through a $10 cup gun in my driveway on a calm afternoon .Sorry for the bad pic ,it was almost dark when i took it .It actually has more gloss in the sun (go figure) .In my opinion ,this is about as glossy as you would want for the suede look .Anything more looks like a gloss paint job that didnt turn out right..

Yes, Rustoleum flat black, then after it dries, polish it to satin with a rag, or Eastwood has a "Rat Rod Black" for $69/gal.

I bought it at the local John Deere dealer in the parts dept. The guy at the counter told me that its been discontinued ,but luckily he had a few gallon cans left in the back.I have used the low gloss black in the gallon can from tractor supply before and i didnt have good luck with it.It didnt seem to lay down very well and it never cured well either .The John Deere stuff seems to spray lots better in my opinion and looks better to...
