Alex and the crew burnt the midnight oil one last time on the Starliner finishing at about 3:30 Friday morning. Then Alex hopped in and drove it from San Jose to Pleasanton, about 30 miles. The overheating problem didn't magically go away while the paint was being done. Then the power steering completely shit the bed. Oh well, those are easy fixes but will keep it off the road for now.

Anyway, the whole Gambino crew (www.gambinocustoms.com) showed up on Friday to get the car cleaned up and ready for the weekend. It shined like a jewel. The car stopped everyone in their tracks all weekend. You would hear people walking by talking about it. We got a lot of kudos from top builders and hot rodders.

The more I looked at it the more I loved it. I'm very proud. Photos just don't do the paint justice. You just can't see the depth and changes unless you see it in person. Maybe the likes of Steve Coonan or Mark Gewertz could pull it off (hint, hint).

Alex drove it back to the shop on Sunday so they can tie up some of the loose ends.

Again, GIGANTIC thanks goes to all who made this happen: Alex, Dave, Steve, Ash, Tony, Ben, Gene, Christina and Regan. Also thanks to the wives and girlfriends that put up with the late nights.

I'm glad the HAMB was able to come along for the ride and see what happens when two artists collaborate on a nearly period-perfect build.

    Next stop....Paso Maria!

My first look at the car finished and outside.

That's the only bummer about working for the show. I don't get to compete.

If the car is worthy you should be able to carry some hardware home.....regardless.
Now that Boyd is gone do GGs still have a ____ Pro-Pick?

Car really turned out nice.. I liked it when it was all white and shuttered when I saw this paint work start. I have trouble seeing through to the end.

Need to do something like this on my 58...

Good luck with it and Congrats!!

that paint really needs too be seen in person. pictures just don't show it.

should have put a tape recorder by the front to see how many people said "what the fuck is may cause dangerous?'' when they saw the sign.

KIRK!, congratulations on owning a now legendary car. The folks at Gambino's really took care of you and in the process, built a custom to set the benchmark for today's cars to strive towards. Beautifully done!

Does this mean we will not get 2 or 3 "may cause dangerous" updates a day?
