If nothing else, don't miss what they say about the Chevy SSR.--
"The SSR also violated a principle of hotrodding. Hotrods are homemade subversions of the existing order, mechanical folk art. There is no such thing as a factory hotrod. Seems obvious, in retrospect."
Very well put, and helps to explain why I never got all excited about muscle cars either.

has to be a tree hugging, limp wristed, flip boy who wrote that. the chrysler airflow rocks, and the edsel as good looks too. personally anythin in the mid 70's up could disappear tomorrow and i wouldnt miss it.

  9. Ha. Nahhhh but queer riding ass wagons were cool in the 60s!!!!

we'll just group cars like this in the catagory of "rods that completly lack timelessnes/ aka really show their age/ reflection of the periods trends... ahh bullshit etc tacos anyone?."

I'm feeling pretty good: I've only owned two of the cars on this list! A Dauphine (first car at $37.50) and a Gremlin (free)!

Chevette made the list, but not Vega? That doesn't speak well of the intelligence of the author. At least Chevettes had engines that outlived the rest of the car.

Having owned (and loved) a large number of the cars on that list, I now begin to question my automotive sanity.....:(

Once the Ford gas tank fix was done the Pinto was a pretty good little car. I had a 2000cc work beater that I paid $500 for, drove 5 years and 65000 miles and sold for $600. Its still running around town. I had a Chevette too and the Pinto was way better then that

50 worst? Not even close. I read about the T. That wasn't about the car it was global warming crap. More about how cars wrecked the world. You know if Henry had never made a car we'd all be living at one with nature as we ran across the plains trying not to be turned into a pile of Grizzly bear crap. And what's with the Hillbilly slam in the 1913 Scripps write up? It's like they're saying we shouldn't have stills! Take away the gas, gunpowder, and whiskey and what proof will there be that we were ever civilized? I just couldn't red the rest. Besides I always wanted a Crosley or one of those Midgets they sold in the back of Popular Mechanics. Nope, this isn't about cars it's more social engineering! I should know my son is an antisocial engineer and he tells me stuff. :p

    Hmmm...
Reads like the list was compiled more more than one guy. Some cars are on the list because of their lack of machismo and power ('80 vette), while others are on there because they they not eco-friendly enough.
The Explorer makes the list of the 50 'worst' cars of all time because it was massively successful? The Excusion because it's big and not fuel efficient?
And the T gets on the list basically because it's responsible for putting America on the road and making people feel 'entitled' to a car?
I don't that qualifies any of them as 'worst cars.'

  17. I had a '73... It knew it's way home at 3:00 am, if I was sober enough to get the key in the ignition, if I wasn't the front floor was more comfortable than my futon. My family had a 73 Gremlin (X), and I had numerous Corvairs... It's a wonder I didn't take up bike riding.

I'd agree with the Renault Dauphine. They started rusting right in the showroom. Saw one only about 4 years old hit a bump and drop about 2 and a half feet of rocker panel on the street.

    Speaking of mechanical failures,

why no Lincoln Mark VII or VIII?

Love both cars, but that air-ride suspension might be one of the worst things ever to happen to those cars. You could spend a fortune just fixing that let alone all of the plastic that breaks on the inside, the headlights costing $900 for a bulb and various other flaws.

I only know because I own one.

They should only list 40 out of the 50. Ten spots should be reserved for anything that Renault, Citroen or Fiat makes in the future.

The '66 Peel Trident is a cool-looking ride. A few mods, and it's almost some remedial-kinda Roth deal.

Notice there is not a single Toyota / Datsun/ Nissan / Mazda / Honda on the list. I have owned a few Toyotas when i was in my 20's and believe me when i tell you " I beat the ever loving piss out of them" Always grabbing second gear rubber , roll backs you name it. Those Toyotas never blinked and came back for more with out so much as a backfire. [ unless i turned the key off while going down the road to produce my own]
I view the older Toyotas to old chevys , easy to work on and die hard.

As for the rest of the list some should be on that list and some not , the authers reasoning is all over the place on his opinions.
But the Gremlin? Those were great cars , and a sentimental favorite.

Go to any drag strip and listen to the crowd squeel with delight when a [ usually chevy power'd ] Gremlin does its burn out.

Shame on them for adding that car to the list.

I'd give/have given about any of those vehicles a chance sept fer the explorer. I lost my son and best friend in one, in a very violent accident, there suspension sucks, and they are very dangerous in general. As fer the cat that wrote up this list, he no doubt lives in the rear seat of a taxi, or at best behind the wheel of an electric get around a couple of blocks at a time golf cart. Many people have had cool memories with many of the cars on this list, including me. i favor about anything that will tout me and friends, and goes Ud'n-Ud'n !! crackerbilly
