This guy had it. The auto/motorcycle became his pallet to express his art work. Growing up in Kansas City I saw some of the coolest stuff in his shop. Cars were only a drop in the bucket. The locals will remember this one. The gas powered tourbo charged clothes washer with a chop top and scallops and it was functional. My mom didnt want me hanging out around that group. So I had to sneak around with out her knowing it. He knew this becuase my mom told him. So he alwas told me to scram kid and I did. But the things that came from there shop only pictures would do justice. I had forgotten about that stuff intil I read this post.

You guys wanna see some wild ass shit.My mind is a file cabinet and as soon as I looked at thety chopped merc above I knew it wasnt the same car but this guy had this thing in Des Moines in 81.He didnt use 53 Merc headlight rings and his gas door was welded in ,the roof was higher and the 1/4 window shapes were different but WOW!This beater was also pictured in a road shot on the way to the Lead Sled Nats in Desmoines in Mike Keys LEAD SLEDS book in 1984 on pages 12 and 13.Oh yeah, the spots louvers and caps are different on the Minnesota car...

Well it is my turn to Brag. Jim Greene painted my 69 Barracuda for me in mid 1979. His shop was around 33rd and Main (??) in what I called a cave. He was an interesting fellow and was kind hearted to me. I had no idea then he was such a legend. I had just heard he was good with paint. He drove an AMC Pacer, yellow with wood grained sides if I remember correctly!
This shot was taken a few years ago, maybe around 2005. The paint still looks good, lacquer. Keeping it in out of the sun and weather is the best thing.
    Thanks Jim and crew!

[IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG][IMG]Man great pics. The convertible that you asked about is a 51 or 52 Chevy. Looks like a Pontiac bumper, foxcraft skirts, merc tailights, spots, 49 Chevy license plate surround. Love to see more of it. I'm doing a 51 vert now. Love it to look like that. [IMG]

Man - I met Carl... I heard he did the same at the driver's license bureau for Ray Fharner!

They used to cruise around local parks with the lights off, come right up on their buddies, and BUMP 'em just to scare 'em. In that same vain, they used to sneak up on folks making out in cars with flashlights and freak 'em out. :)

    ~Jason

"All at this same time Jimmy never needed to drive (outside the straight drag strip) so he didn't know how. But decided to buy a car. But not knowing how to drive, a friend Carl tested for him in the days before drivers license pictures. Since he was afraid to try driving - mods began.. (1958 A chevy dealer distruction gave way to a new 348ci Chevy and 3 speed - what else can you do when all you can drive is a straight line?) These photos show the later update to the new 409. Yeah, light and fast like John Milner, this little stude became a force to recon with."

That's a 33 Packard in the background of the 1st pic, looks like a 1001 or 1002. I wonder what it was doing there? I wonder which one it is?

I just caught this thread today. That pic of him with the torch and he bumper jack is awesome. All of them are fantastic. Thank you so much for posting these.

Can you imagine working on your car with those wrenches he has there? I can already feel the bolts rounding off in my hands, not to mention I'd never reach any of them. *THAT'S* freaking cool. He looks much more relaxed than I'd be working under a bumper jack!
