I love them all, good, bad and ugly. One of my favorites is the California Kid. I read a story once about the star, Pete and Jakes '34 Ford. Apparently after handing over the car for filming, Pete received the final script. The duo riffled through it and near the end, when modifications were going to be made to their rod, the script read something like: "Driver borrows torch from local repair station and cuts off the fenders!" Can you imagine! After a heated conversation and furied re-write, it became suspension mods in the final cut."

What's your favorite gear head movie and why? Favorite lines, scenes, bloppers etc.

The studio really did beat the hell out of it. I remember an article in one of the rod magazines at the time with some behind the scenes details. They put on a round tube rear bumper so they could nerf it with the Plymouth cop car and I think they said they wore out a couple of sets of tires. If you look closely during the scene where Martin Sheen is sliding the car toward the edge of the canyon he gets out and walks along the running board and accidently snaps the outside mirror off. All minor stuff compared to torching a fender off.

if you are talking about 'hot-rod" flix I just saw "Thunder Road" on TCM again last week. If you want high energy car chase stuff mixed with a pretty good story try "Ronin" with Robert DiNiro.

Fast and the Furious! Hey, it's April Fool's, right?

Seriously, I kinda liked the 2nd F&F. Dust to Glory, original Gone in 60 Seconds, Cars, Transporter movies are good for chases and all around guy stuff.

I love The Fast and the Furious, OK it was mostly imports but there were some Caddy powered Allards in a few of the shots. And even though they aren't US tin those old British roadsters are still cool as Hell!

Check out High School Confidential. It sounds like a cheesy ****o, I know, but it is a "teenage" flick from 1958. Has some decent hot rodding footage. Also does, Teenage Rebel and The Big Wheel. But still, American Graffitti is a cl***ic.
