My 38 Chevy's got smoothie boards that I'd like to add some type of rubber to look a little more OG. Ideas? Pics would be great
Not sure if you could make it work....but Roberts sells them for early Chryslers. http://www.robertsmotorparts.com/tr...h&c=Trucks+%2D+Miscellaneous+Rubber+Parts
how about a place called chevies of the forties,,they have a pretty good selection of stuff.. i agree,,it'll look better with rubber..usually not crazy about smoothie boards
A buddy found some ribbed rubber for his running boards in the flooring section at Lowes. Turned out good.
I was actually wondering about recovering the ones on my '38 Buick.... this has come right on time...
I like the diamond pattern used on 28 and 29 Fords. Years ago, I was able to order it by the yard from Motor city antique Auto in St. Clair Shores Mi. I'm pretty sure they're out of business now but it might still be available. Couldn't even say who the manufacturer was.
I'm working on a '38 Buick. The original running boards looked like ****. They didn't go to the fenders in the front and I didn't like the look. Since they were straight I made new ones. I'm still looking for something to cover them with too. I have covers for my 1940 chevy that I think came from Chevsofthe40s. The stock running boards have support beads running through them, and the rubber is flat on the bottom. The rubber would work good for a smooth board. I'm planning on making smooth boards from steel and using the rubber I have. It'll be a project because of the curve that follows the body, but no way in hell I'll put gl*** boards on this car.... I picked up mine for my '37 from Chev's of the 40's. They're expensive, but real nice quality from the looks of them. I got the kind that have the steel backer and haven't installed them yet so i don't know how the fits going to be, but we'll see.
My dad did his 31 Chevy with rhino liner tinted to match the paint job (or maybe they painted over it...? I dunno, can you do that with rhino liner?). Whatever, It looks really nice and durable. Way better than the rubber that continually shrunk and peeled that he had been dealing with...
You can buy the stick on grip for skateboards by the foot at skateboard shops. I've used it twice and it holds up well.
I had my covered with rhino liner then glued a thick ribbed carpet runner on top. I think they look great.
