I did a search and didn't come up with any info. on their Stromberg FI system Anyone have any dealings with them? Good,Bad or otherwise. I seem to remember someone from Europe having a bitch of a time with setting one up but I can't seem to find it. Thanks Jeff
I know an awful lot about this, actually, and have emailed them a few times. Here's the posts: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=84496&highlight=moon+injection http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=89023&highlight=moon+injection Here’s the site: http://www.retrotekspeed.com/injection/Nostalgia.htm Here’s the retail pricing: http://www.retrotekspeed.com/injection/Pricing.htm Here’s the phone number: 951-737-2006 Actually, I had offered to do some PR for these guys to get their product out there in exchange for a 3x2 setup, but they had already given out too many freebies, so I was out of luck. They used to sell them through Mooneyes: http://www.mooneyes.com/MISC/drive.html Here’s an article: http://gadgets.autoblog.com/2004/11/03/a-nostalgic-look-to-modern-induction-of-debt/ They’ve been featured on TV several times, with their setups being on Boyd’s rods as well as on some Foose ones. If you have any questions, feel free to email them at: retrotekspeed@sbcglobal.net Also, they've been talked about several times on this board - just do a search for "Moon injection". By the way, based upon what I've read on here about the company, and people's opinions about running look-alike products in general, this post may open up a can of worms. ~Jason
I have their three carb set and could not get the computer to work well. Spoke to him many times.. Finally took it to a fellow who put a Fuel AirSpark Technology computer in it and now it really works. This is on an Ardun Flathead. I would try and buy the his "Strombergs" and use the FAST. system. I think his computer is worthless.
If you need a decent computer, and you're a do-it-yourself kind of guy (like me), use a MegaSquirt: http://www.megasquirt.info/ It's a "do-it-yourself", solder-together kit a-la Radio Shack, but it works (and you have pretty much complete control). ~Jason
Thanks for the ideas guys I think I'll give FAST a call first before I call Retro. I've been fixing GMs for 20 years so FI doesn't scare me. In fact I'm much better with FI than I ever will be with carbs. Thanks again Jeff
I put the RETROTEK 6X2 on a 350 chevy and it dont work it is a total waste of money. The computer is a hunk of junk ,they offer no real tech support If you want the look of carbs use carbs dont waste you money on the Retrotek system.
You still looking to unload it? Since I did this original post, I've heard stories like yours. I really wonder what in the hell happened to Retrotek... ~Jason
I'm after their injectors, not their computer. The injectors are simple beasts, and are likely fine. I'm after 'em to run off of my own computer, likely a MegaSquirt-based hybrid. I've built a 3x2 setup like theirs in my head over the past few years, and I'd love to pick up the pieces cheap enough to actually experiment with it. If what I come up with is any better, I could share it with the world, absolutely free - and at that point, folks could buy their Stromberg 97 lookalike injectors from Retrotek, and either build their own computer from parts from Radio Shack using instructions freely available online, or maybe take the parts to a HAM radio shop to have 'em soldered together, or hell, even order 'em pre-assembled for parts plus shipping/handling/labor - I'd want it to be "open source", so that the info will always be free (never sold), and anyone that can improve it is free to contribute, etc. Just an idea I've been kicking around... You know, if they had a 350 in the corner of the shop on a stand, with all the RetroTek stuff on it so all they had to do was plug in a computer, start the motor, and run it for a bit to verify it's viability before each computer is dropped in the box it would greatly improve the success of their product. Then again, the price would go up because of the salary of the QA dude doing that... ~Jason
FYI....I just removed a single "97" EFI and the complete wiring harness, CPU, etc from my Model A. this is a Mooneyes unit I purchased in 2004. Worked fine for me, however I was banned from certain Model A competition events. So, I replaced it with one of the new 97's. It was listed for $550 post paid in the HAMB classifieds.
