....after many years of driving it?

I've had my Fairlane for about 6 years. I've painted it, replaced the interior completely, replaced the engine/tranny, wiring and who-knows what else. When I was doing the interior, I found a really cool and really old pocket knife with a pearl handle.

Last night, I was removing the "teeth" (bumper guards) from the rear bumper and a hide-a-key box fell out of one of them. It was extremely rusty on the outside and the trunk key (aftermarket copy) is very tarnished. Both keys were wrapped in paper. The previous owner did no work at all on this car and I believe it sat for many years prior to them getting it. I am guessing this thing has been in the back bumper since the 70's or early 80's based on the condition and look of the interior and paint before I changed it.

Not a big deal, but it's pretty cool to find something like this after owning this car for so long!

What kind of weird crap have you found in your ride?

I bought a '50 Studebaker off a Navy guy around 1986, Had to go on Base to buy it from the guy.

I drove it as a daily for about a Year & a half, Took it off the road and lost interest.

Fast forward to around 1998, I take the car from storage as i traded the body for some other parts... Guy says he didnt want the main shell cus its a 4~door so i start to strip it.

Pull the back seat out and under the seat... In a Leather Case .... is an old Mossburg Rifle & 3 box's of ammo

Glad i never got "SEARCHED" in that car !

bought a 49 ford 2 door back in 1968 for $ 50.00. Cleaned it up and found $35.00 or so of change in the trunk!
Plus I drove the car from California to Florida and then NJ before selling it for $ 50.00
I remember it had about 1-1/2 turns of freeplay in the steering wheel. No interstates back then, drove all that way on 2 lane roads with a crown. Very exciting driving as you could imagine.

Found a mouse skull in the ashtray of my '62 Suburban.

In the '54 Buick, up behind the trunk cardboard by the deck-lid hinge boxes, there were some mouse nests made of newspaper shreds. I couldn't find any dates on any of the scraps, but there was one small story headline about the Ed Sullivan show.

I found about a half an ounce of meth and a couple hundred oxycotin pills in the master cylinder of an El Camino that I bought. I called the guy I bought it from and he gave me a sizeable chunk of cash. More than I bought the car for. I'm just glad I didn't get caught with it. I owned the car for at least 3 months before I found the stash.

Man that would've sucked if the cops were trailing this guy and you got caught up giving him the stuff back for cash.

"Really officer, I didn't even know it was there!"
(as a Foreigner tune blares from the 8-track player in the 'Camino)

The only thing I found was a couple of wasps nests made out of mud. Each about the size of a golf ball.
And some holes in my floors......

  15. I found a million year old bottle opener in the drivers side kick panel of the old dodge during sandblasting, a small hole had rusted and its tip was poking out.
it was a cheapo version when it was new, a thin metal stamped one that was heavily rusted.

When I first fired up my '50 chevy, about 10 dead mice got launched out of the exhaust along with a bunch of acorns. I am glad no one was standing behind the car!

I picked up a 64 buick and found 35 cents, a quarter and a dime dated 1965. Underneath the drivers seat. I pulled the front clip off, and found a "hide a key" box on top of the drivers side wheel well covered in 2 inches of dust. Key was brand new. and the crazy thing was when I bought the car they had lost the original key. I also found a blown engine, rusty floors, and holes in the seats. The old owners can have those back.

I bought my '60 in 2003, at age 16. It was a filthy mess, full of mouse nests, huge rust holes, etc. Completely fixed it up with my dad, finished in 2004. Fast forward to fall 2007. I'm opening up a new Chocolate Orange ... whack & unwrap! I smack it against the steel dash and an old dried-up wasp nest falls onto the floor.

  25. Wild Irish Rose bottle under the seat of my impala. Little present from the crazy old man that sold it to me.

damn... too bad they werent dated 64, the last year they were made of real silver...

  27. I had an '87 Pontiac full size wagon for a while, and bought a cheap '86 Buick for parts. Decided to put the power seats from the Buick into the Pontiac. While changing them, I found a pot pipe buried in the crack of the left side of the split bench. Not knowing anyone who could use it and not wanting to get caught with it, I tossed it.

Fast forward 5 years. The car has sat around off and on and we're scrapping it. I decide to save the seats since they were nice. Car is on it's side so I could pull the trans, so I just cut the floors out through some rot holes with the sawzall and drop the seats out the bottom. I kind of toss the passenger side seat out of the way in case the car decides to fall over, what pops out of the crack of the seat?

Another pot pipe. This one I gave to someone who could use it.

It explains why after I got the car so cheap I was able to put the ignition they had taken apart, back together with junk parts, and discover the only thing wrong with the car was that it was completely out of gas, so bad I had to leave the cap loose so the pump could suck it up to the carb.

I race Street Stock circle track cars. I'm always on the lookout for a G-body GM product. I stopped one day and asked about an 83' Regal I had seen parked behind a house for a while. Seems the owner had passed away about a year earlier and his daughter said I could have it. Got it home and started to strip it down and found 10 GRAND in a bank bag in the trunk. It was wet and some of the bills had detiorated, contacted the US treasury and only got 8,700.00 for the bills that both serial numbers were legible on. It payed for a new motor and I sold most of the parts off the Regal to boot.

I found a bag of what I'm guessing was harry and a bunch of needles under the seat of a parts car ( Triumph Stag:eek: ) Scared the shit out of me, I had just been rifling through the stuff under there- narrowly missed getting stuck. Threw it out quicksmart.

Also ,in old cars, found lots of tins for "laxetes". People must have been backed up in the good ol' days:p
