I'd needed to put brakes on the wife's rig (Honda Pilot) and went into sticker shock when I called the dealer for OEM rotors and pads.

So I figured I'll do the right thing and call around to some of the local parts stores to do my part for the local economy

First guy flat out told me I don't sell or stock US made brake parts. I appreciated his honesty an d told him so.

2nd call was to trusty old NAPA. Guy gives me two prices: Real cheap and said economic Chinese parts and then another price for the premium line. I said, "'**** can the Chinese junk and price out the premium ones.

For God's sake, it is my wife and two boys driving in this rig.

He gives me a price. Not too bad when compared to the dealers oringial price.

Catch was one set (rears) I had to pay for in advance since he had to order them and other (fronts) were in stock.

Last question I asked him, "Before we do this deal over the phone, can you tell me for certain if the premium parts are US made?" He said, "I'm pretty sure but, if you hold on I'll check." "No problem," I tell the dude.

He comes back two minutes later and says, 'Yep, checked the boxes and it says made in USA."

Go down the next day to pick every up and to my dismay and clear as day the boxes are labled, "MADE IN CHINA."

I look at the parts and look at this *** gasket and I ask, "You remember our discussion and part when I specifically I asked you if they were made in the USA, right?" He said, "Yeah, sorry, I guess I made a mistake."

I said, "No problem, cancel the order." Guy tries to give me grief since they were "special order". After a few rounds of my stance of false information and of him just being a plain dip ****, the guy agrees to give me my money back.

I hop on line and find a few Honda dealers are selling OEM parts through their various internet sites at awesome (like $15.00 more than NAPA premium parts) prices. Place an order (the dite I wnet with priced match a lower price I found on another site) paid the shipping which worked out to be about $10 more than NJ sales tax and the parts arrived on my door 1 day later.

Kicker of it all, every Honda brake part I ordered was made in the USA.

I'm as cheap as the next guy but, I just don't get how anyone would trust something like brakes to the Chinese. They can't even get dog food, tooth paste or toys right and you are going to trust them with your life? Ponderous, man. Simply ponderous!

Is your life really worth saving a few bucks on inferior parts? I just don't get it. I really don't.

Please tell me if I'm being overly concerned? I'd like to hear from someone in the business that can say with honey that the Chinese parts are as good as the old US made stuff.

    OK, rant over.

Just received my disk brake kit from a well known mail order house and you guessed it, everything but the rebuilt calipers are "made in china" Not a cheap kit either.

I hate to break it to you but our USA(?) companies are outsourceing almost all brake parts.I deliver for CSK and 6 months ago most rotors were USA,all the new coming in are chinese,Thanks Raybestos! Satisfied brake pads which is a primary sponsor for "Dream Car Garage" on Speed Channel also has gone that way, previously they were in Canada, all the new ones coming in chinese. Three years ago I rebuilt my '65 Chevy C-10 with a U.N. brake rebuild Master: India, front drums :Mexico, rear drums :Canada Shoes: USA? kits and front wheel cyls:Mexico, rear wheel cyls:India nothing Chinese then,I bet that has changed! Let's layoff more American workers, raise gas to $4 +.Hey! George Bush got us a tax rebate!

Fact is, that Honda Pilot may very well have more American made parts than many of the big three offerings.

Somewhat unrelated, but disturbing is that the money for the econimic stimulus checks that the US government is sending out was borrowed from China. So you could concievably say that now us Americans are working for China. Think about that for a minute.

Not only is a Honda Pilot off topic, but you went and bought a Japaneese car and now you're upset that you have a hard time finding brakes made in the USA ?

    WTF am I missing here?????

Preposterous is the word you want. Ponderous is big and slow-like the theme of this OT waste of bandwidth.

The Premium shoes I just bought for my Chevy truck had riveted linings, the $5 cheaper economy set were bonded (glued), just like the ones that I was replacing that had failed.

I know, I should have made a point of the irony. Believe it or not, the Pilot is made in Tenesse (or one of those Southern) states. The money still goes back the mother land.

I know what you are thinking. The Pilot is actually made in the US. I really do try to buy American when possible. Until the big three can make a car that will last without major mechanical isssue, I'll stick with the Japanese for daily rigs.

Now if they ever made a flathead V8, I'd be a little pissed.

The brand of the car is irrelavent here. Parts are parts. Fewer and fewer parts are being made in US. That is the point.

Don't you think it is ironic that the Honda parts are made in the USA and the Raybestos and Wagners are made in China?

I agree with Chineese brake shoes being ****. On my Ford truck, went through 3 sets of chineese linings. The linings will fall off the shoes....eventually found Shoes relined in Canada: they have been on there for 4 years with no problems.

A word on economic stimulus checks and how to spend them. If you buy nearly anything small the money will go t China, If you use it for gas it will go to some camel jockey, if you buy a computer cell phone or other electronic it will got to Korea, Japan or China.

So keep your money at home where it will do the most good...

So spend it where it will do the most good

    Beer and *****s.
