I'm thinking of doing the interior on my 38 Chevy like a 59 Pontiac or something that Era. Ya know, part vinyl and part art/deco fabric. I'd like to find a source nearby, so's I can see the stuff in person. Thanks
I'd say go downtown Los Angeles and go to the Fashion/Fabric district, there is aton of cool vintage stuff down there, dirt cheap. In West Hollywood, there is always, Diamond Foam and Fabric (La Brea, south of Beverly, I believe), they have alot of stuff but maybe "not" what your looking for. There is also a place in Burbank, I bought stuff from, I forgot the name, but it's across the street from OSH on Victory (just don't ask the retarded kid, at the store, and you'll be fine.) They don't have much, but check it out.
A1 Foam has a warehouse full of upholstery fabrics etc. I think it's in Santa Ana but it's worth the drive...
There's a big fabric shop around the corner from my house.I'll go in the morning and grab a card for you.
Yeah Groucho, Dreadman said it already but Diamond Foam and Fabric has the best selection of different fabrics that I have found.. Its a bit pricey but you won't need a whole lot for a car.....Lucky
Where the 91 fry and the 110 cross, come east a block or two on the north side of the 91 fry, there are several fabrick wholesale places that will sell to you. You will be blown away by these warehouses. ---TV
Hit the fabric district in downtown LA. I saw some fantastic prints for a few bucks a yard when I was there a couple weeks ago.
It is a little more time involved, but you could scour some of the upholstery shops that have been in business for a LONG time. Also ,some mom and pop places that have been around for a while as well. They have rolls of stuff that have sat aroung for decades. I used to do upholstery as a teen and remember coming across some vintage fabric like this .
In talking about auto upholstry fabrics with different people, they have said I should use material that is UV treated because if not, the sunlight will cause it to deteriorate more quickly. My car, being a convertible, has more exposure with the top down....but at the same time, it's not used a whole lot. Anyone have info or thoughts about that? I can find some fabrics I like at regular upholstry places, but it's for home use and not UV treated. So going to look further at auto upholstry places I guess.
Yes, I've heard of this, and used some cool indoor furniture stuff anyway a few years back. It was fine until I sold the car, and the kid didn't garage the car as much as I did. It went (faded) FAST!
Boy i am wayy off base !! I read the Headline and the first thing that came to mind was.. VICTORIA SECRETE
are there are any places in the fabric district that sell auto upholstery?? my wife goes there from time to time, but if there is auto upholstery there i think i might have to tag along.
