Hi, Just thought I'd post up some pics of a 4 cyl. '32 Roadster Pickup I am building to use as a daily ....
Ok, I'm guessing rear engined VW... Am I right? Judging by the slight nose-up at***ude and the weird muffler under the bed. Cool looking RPU regardless...
Thanks Guys .....yes Beetle based ...sorry !! I know it will offend some guys but I build Rods for a living and also get involved with Volksrods , buggies etc...I needed a shop truck , this made sense to combine the two sides of our business ! I am a traditional Rodder at heart ( founder member of the 'Low Flyers ' if that means anything to you guys ? ) so I'm well aware this will leave a bad taste in some peoples mouths ....but we do build trad. cars too !! We used a complete , uncut length-wise Beetle ch***is with all running gear , shift linkage , handbrake etc intact ....grafted repro rails to the front and built it a lot quicker and cheaper than our usual builds ! OH , SHE SITS LEVEL , SLIGHTLY NOSE DOWN IF ANYTHING , WHEN SHES PARKED ON LEVEL GROUND TOO !! ( Bad pics !! )
Great taste, less filling.(of the tank) Are you going to do some lettering for the business on the doors? Colors, everything, very nice. My 6th official "*****ing" post .And that's two this week.
wasn't going to just yet ...dunno ! Yes economy was a factor ... fuel is just under $10 a gallon in the U.K. right now !!
I don't know much about the difference in VW engines (i.e. Type 1 vs. Type 2, etc.), but I'd consider a VW engine at least potentially period correct since the Type 1 dates back to circa 1945 and prototypes back to circa 1933! I'd discount anybody that could find a disparaging thing to say about this RPU. No matter what engine powers it, its got "the look".
No need to apologize! You had a vision, used what parts and resources you had available to you, and made a killer looking ride that's also functional for your business. What more could you ask for? Nice work.
Fibregl*** from my moulds ....I took a Roadster body , cut the rear and we made a new back panel , remoulded it as a one piece ( we cut the doors out ourselves ) this keeps them cheap ... I sell the body tub for £350 , about $680 at present ... the bed is Model A , again from my moulds...the wheelbase actually had to be stretched a bit for it to work but whitewalls tend to 'shorten' cars visually , so it all came together nicely.... Paint is good old Plasti-kote Night Blue satin , about 6 cans !! It needs a bit more really , shes a bit patchy if you look...
Heres a little '27 T modified we have just finished ....this one's sold and being delivered on Monday ..... engine is a 1600 pinto with 4 spd....sherpa rear axle , straight tube front 16'' steels...
I'm doing this very same color but in gloss. It's a Navy WWII period color. I just found the actual color numbers yesterday. The "federal stock" number (you mil' guys will know what that is!) is FS-35045 or another that if VERY similar, if you can even tell, is FS-35042. The color names can be found as "Dark Sea Blue", "Night Blue" or "Non-spectacular Blue". These colors were used on ships and fighter planes such as the F4U Corsair, Grumman Avenger and I think even the Hellcat was seen with these colors. They are available in matte, semi-gloss, and glossy. I think the truck looks fantastic! Not sure how I feel about the V-dub situation, but using what you had, and for the reasons you did it is totally right! Great job! And YES, I love that color!
Hell yes, it's a Hot Rod. You guys over there impress the hell out of me with what you build. Not easy I'm sure, especially when you are making everything from scratch. Good job and thanks for posting.
Awesome mix of ideas! Is it easier than it looks to keep these roadsters dry inside? I noticed you said this was going to be a daily driver (rainy UK) - I've often wondered about that. That thing is just plain cool..
