I'm wanting spray some Roth Monster Flake on a project. I have a 2.0mm cheap-o spray gun......the Roth Flake gun is 2.5mm and looks just like the gun I have. Does any one think there would be any problems with drilling out the orfice of the 2.0 to 2.5mm???? There is enough meat around the orfice and the taper on the needle is long enough...????
Build your own "Bazooka" ,i do it of an BODY spray gun with a shorted pipe and a small bottle under. Then i mount a small pressure regulator at the inlet of the spray gun so the pressure can be reduced to 0 psi and when using it open it to about 3-5 psi. Total cost under 50 $.
I am wanting to spray the flake suspended in binder or clear. I just picked up a 2.54mm (0.01) drill bit. Ithink I'll go ahead and punch it out and see if it will work.....
As long as your tader rod is long enough it should be ok. It will likely have more adjustment on the material by doing this. the rod will stick further through the car thus letting you set pull the trigger more. Does that make sense? Sorry it's 4 am here and I couldn't sleep.
let us know if it works!! i got this primer/under coating gun that came in a three piece set i got for a hundred bucks. its a 2.5mm tip as well i think i might try that too.
Well guys I punched it out.....2.54mm I hope to spray a test panel later this week...I'll keep you posted.
It should work others hav done it many times. I feel the 2.0 is plenty big enough for spraying monster flake and all the rest, but to each his own.
If you want better fluid control, take some valve lapping compound, dip the needle in it, and spin it into the tip. just like lapping in a valve-it increases the sealing surface between the needle and tip, so it's ot "instant fluid", and should help with atomization. one thing to remember- the binder will "melt in" really easy when you go to topcoat it. -meaning it has a potential for a mudslide. I would do a test panel with whatever you are gonna spray over it, be it candy or clear.
A picture of my home built flakebuster, works perfect to a low cost, i made it of an BODY spray gun with a shorted pipe and a small bottle under. Then i mount a small pressure regulator at the air inlet so the pressure can be reduced to 0 psi and when using it open it to about 3-5 psi. Total cost under 50 $. All parts from JULA in sweden
