hello everyone, wanted to clear the air here and get a direct answer the the question of 53-54 uprights for 49-52 chevy's. i have searched this and there are so many different answers that we need a answer from experiance. what uprights lower the 49-52 chevys 53 or 54 or both? do you need the steering arms from the 53-54? and how much does it lower the car? 3/4, or 1 inch? any other tricks or advise would be great. thanx

ok thanx for the info. now you say the stock steering arms will work. do they just bolt up with no bump steer? or do you have to heat them up and bend? i have bags on the front and i just need a little more to drop it down.

  4. Like OILSLINGER said. The 53/54 uprighs will lower a 49-52 "about" 1" The reson it may not be axact on every car is dpending on the age and condition there my be some sag in the springs. You could also sent your uprights to Buffalo Ent. and have them lowered 2 1/4" It costs $250.00. Also try and find a a set of 54 steering arms. They are 5/8" lower than the others. I used Buffalo Uprights and cut 1 coil and it dropped my car a little over 4"

thanks for the info! does anyone have 53-54 uprights and steering arm there are willing to part with? if so let me know price and i will get back to you.

  6. I would post that in the classified "Wanted" section. I'm sure someone who converted to M-2 front suspension will have them.

The uprights from the -54 give higher height of the spindle of 3/4".
how much this lower your car, depends of also springs etc.
On my -50 it did lower the front approx. 1 1/2 ", with same springs as before change. I used the original steeringarms, without trouble,
( but also changed to rack& pinion ......)

  9. What make/model rack and pinion? I'm sure I'm not the only one who would really like to see some pics and a tech write up.

Used a power rack from an european Opel Calibra (also GM, but german...). Some others uses this to, as SAAB, and some US cars...
    it has centermount for steeringarms.

For comparison, my '53 is 4 1/2" from the center of the knuckle to the lower trunion.

I just "inherited" a '52 frontend with Buffalo dropped uprights from a friend who went Muskrat II, and thos uprights are 6" from knuckle center to lower trunion.
He didn't have to change anything else when he installed the Buffalo uprights.

If you call Buffalo Enterprises, he will be able to tell you what you need to know.
