The problem with that is, the cars here have to be legal to be on the road and not modified. It pays to have an older kool car here in L.A. other than them rice rockets. That is why they are getting busted. KNUX! U can't bust someone for being parked in a parking lot. They are busting them for have illegal stuff on their cars that don't meet emissions here in the state of California

It sounded to me like they were cracking down on imports based on "street racing". I couldn't imagine this happening at a cruise night or something, but you never now. If the kids there drive like they do here in their "tuner cars" I'm not sure it's not a good thing.

Not that I am aware of locally. Police have gone to several public places were hotrods and street machines hang and have broken up the get together at the request of the propery owners, but no one arrested.:(

Recently in York PA, one night a bunch of cops sealed all of the exits of a shopping center and rounded up a lot of people who were hanging out and watching illegal street racing (mostly tuner cars). All told I think they arrested or issued citations to over 100 people for either tresp***ing or racing. I don't consider this an issue becaue it didn't affect rods and customs people.:D

  8. I have also read about these kinds of things taking place where police were really looking for stolen cars, motors, etc. Apparently if they find stolen stuff they impound and then crush the cars.

  9. That ****s! Are they cops, or tax collectors? What a waste of taxpayer money. Seems like that group of tuners might be able to make a cl*** action suit against the cops for unfair har***ment and improbable cause. If nobody was racing, who are the cops to proclaim that those guys are "street racers"? They're chipping away at our freedom a little bit a time. I'm not a tuner, but I can sure sympathize with those guys after being h***led by cops constantly when I was a young hot-rodder thirty years ago.

Or just merge them? I didn't realize there was another thread. Things get buried back a few pages so quickly. Sorry.

that is total ******** !! weather it has to do with tuners or hot rods...it's just wrong!
i don't support tuners, BUT...they are "car people".
they can not ***ume that they are all street racers without catching them in the act.
the question "if your not into street racing, why would you need that on your car?" is rediculous. same as asking a guy with a blower on a 32 ford.

Like I stated in the previous thread, there are details that are missing, but from this report and another that was posted, it's clear that this area where they were hanging out was near a DO***ENTED location where street racing took place. That is probably why the police knew about it. That spot was not an impromptu raid, it was a "hot spot" for illegal activity.

Guilt by ***ociation? Perhaps, but why hangout there? Why put yourself in a situation that could lead to trouble? One report said that there were tire marks in the parking lot from burnouts. Maybe it was from a previous night, maybe it wasn't. Could it happen to hot rodders? Yes, that's why you have to be aware of where you are and what the mentality is of the group as a whole. Why hangout in a place KNOWN for illegal street racing? They were asking for trouble and got it. I still see nothing wrong with what the cops did.

Yea, this raid cost some money and it was not all of the grant money that is reported. It was a PORTION of that money. It also cost time and money to s**** brains off the road after some of these ***holes wreck and kill themselves and or other people. It's real easy to look at this and cry police injustice, but just from this sketchy report, you can see why they raided that place.

We have all been there when we were young. You're hanging out, maybe just talking car talk, but there are other people there drinking and just being ***holes. It's not too long before it gets out of hand. THAT is why these things happen. If it had been a group of hot rods, I think the outcome would be the same and I would expect it to.

Bottomline, you have to be aware of who and where you choose to "hang out". If you don't want to be picked on or har***ed, move your *** to a spot that you have permission to be and the mentality is a little more mature. There are places here in Houston that I will NEVER hangout at because the age and mentality of the group is food for stupidity. Use your ****ing heads and the cops will leave you alone for the most part.

There is a cruise spot in the Houston area that gets over 300 cars EVERY saturday night! They have the permission of the property owner, there are trash cans around and there is a laid back, but visible police presence. No incidents, just car people hanging out and enjoying he hobby. ALL kinds of cars are there. On the flip side there is another hangout on the opposite part of town that is not controlled and there are idiots running through the parking lot and burning rubber in and out of the place. Now, which one do you think you need to be at, if all you want to do is enjoy cars and not get harr***ed? then there is another spot where mostly kids and ricers hangout. Street racing happens all the time in the area and the place is a ****ing "hot spot". Yet, every weekend some people choose to go there. They get harrased and asked to move almost every weekend! Why go through all that ******** when you don't have to? USE YOUR ****IN' HEADS when you decide to hang out. It seems really simple to me.

Here's a link to the organization that has the big controlled cruise. NOTHING but fun and there are a few Houston HAMBers that make it and can back up my story on it.

    http://www.niftee50ees.com/

Click on "car show events". They take pictures of all the cars and do***ent EVERY WEEKEND. There are over 300 cars and NO ********TERS are allowed.

They're doing it here in Australia too. They raided a public carpark near me recently, blocked the entrances and inspected 500+ cars and breath tested every driver. They found TWO drunks and FIVE unroadworthy cars out of over 500!

They pulled the same trick outside a primary school at kid pickup time (3pm) the next week, got FIVE drunk mothers and ELEVEN unsafe cars!

I reckon that says a lot for our young people and their cars, and it's why i'm advocating real hard for a proper precinct for them to gather safely and legally. I'm also pushing for a drag strip and burnout pads to be included, and they'll be for everyone to use.

    Cheers, Glen.

I agree with a lot of what tfeverfred says but at the same time this sounds like an example of the cops looking for an easy bust cause they don't want to spend the time to actually catch these kids breaking the law. Bottom line, it costs money to have police solve crimes and it generates lots of money to have police write traffic tickets of any kind. This is the basic reason why crime continues to rise everywhere while you're more likely to see a cop on the highway with a radar gun than on the street in a bad neighborhood. I don't believe our founding fathers ever intended any part of the criminal justice system to be a revenue generating machine, but that is what the whole traffic patrol system has become. Take a look at the numbers in any police dep't. How many detectives working on crime cases and how many traffic cops?

Nowadays you don't come around here for a day and yesterdays post can be over 9 pages back. Used to be one or two.
Just because I don't get on here everyday doesn't mean I shouldn't be allowed to express an opinion.

All I can say is I'm glad I'm not in California.
They used to har*** us around here ( for tint, 4x4 height, no front tag etc. ) back when there were a lot of cops and they were bored.
Now they're too busy chasing real criminals to worry about that stuff.
Hell, a lot of the cops now were in diapers when I was getting pulled over in my old Blazer to have the bumper height measured every month.
They probably don't even know those laws exist.
Some of the local dealers are selling new modified 3/4 and 1 ton trucks that violate the law off the lot.
There are a few kids, in my neighborhood, that I would like to see have their cars crushed, but that's not the point.
    Where's this all gonna end.
Should we crush the cops' cars, when I see them heading home from a shift change, at 80-90 MPH when I'm coming from or going into work on a regular basis. They are off duty and violating the law.
How about the ones that turn their lights on at a stoplight, only because they're too lazy to wait, then turn them back off.
Or how about the guy, with the wife and kids in the marked cruiser, that uses the cop car and gas at $3.25+ a gallon to drive 20 miles to the food store or Walmart.
Ever wonder why perfectly good, law abiding citizens, dislike the police.
That article and the reasons above are why.
They are their own worst enemy.
Criminals on every street corner, shootings etc. and they are worrying about tags, tint and performance mods?

    From another article.
Michael Calderon, 22, of San Bernardino, stood in the parking lot as his 1995 Honda Civic hatchback, which he bought for $600, was loaded onto a tow truck.
Police impounded his car because officers believed some of its parts were stolen.
Calderon said he bought the parts from a reputable business.
"It's devastating," said Calderon, who spent $20,000 on car improvements. "That's my soul right there. This is the worst night of my life."

How many of you could change "1995 Honda Civic" to your old car name and change "reputable business" to ebay or craigslist. Probably a lot of us, myself included.

I've put together more than one car "Meet and Greet". The cops come by my Village Idiots meet and look around and don't bother us at all. Same with the Anti-donut Breakfast. I think it's all in how you present yourself. Plus you don't want the ***HOLES who do burnouts and stuff, that draws unwanted attention. We also don't have those "THUMP" stereos blasting.

The big difference between rodders & ricers, is that we rodders PAY TAXES & are not afraid to go to city hall for a *****-fest with the clowns running the town!

If we are not involved in the city politics or SEMASAN or other whatever, we forfiet the right to *****. We need to remind our politicians who pays the bills & who votes.

BTW- when did Cali suspend the reqmt for a warrant to search folks? Or is an Austrian Republican the same as a Russian Commie?

so far as illegal search and seizure goes, if it happened on "private property" IE the mall parking lot, and the owners of the mall consent to the police being there... it could be considered loitering, and in court they could show cause for the search if "thump radios" were being played or alcohol was open in a public area... noise ordinances and liquor laws work in the cops favor for this one. trust me, they wouldnt pull this **** if they didnt have all their ducks in a row. i disagree with what they did, but i'm sure they did it inside the "law"

I remember that law very well. The cops in western Maryland used to practice that law all the time. Not so much in the last 20 years though. Seems they rather chase cars doing 75 in a 45 mph zone or hanging out at the local bagel shops (they gave up on donuts - too many jokes) :D:D
