i allways think if rpus would stretch the frame a little bit and would keep the bed longer they would look way better.
Keep the bed as is. I'm the type to have my stuff different from everyone elses. If everyone else cuts their bed off, leave yours long. Then it's different......and I like different!
sometimes cartoonish is a good thing... leave it! when asked by the hooker "who will ya make happy with that! " the guy said "me"
Leave the bed long and lengthen the wheelbase so as to center the wheel on the bed. A longer wheelbase will ride better. It may work to run some shortened or bobbed fenders on the rear and cycle fenders on the front. Leave the frame horns on the front as well. They add an illusion of lowness and a little length up front will help the overall flow of the design. Besides, where are you gonna hang the oak push bar at the race track?
I LIKE the long bed A LOT. I think it makes the proportions nicer (longer, sleeker) and with that mean rake, just nasty. Cool as hell, and YES, I'm jealous.
Ha, C9 beat me to the idea!! (Hi Jay!) Is it too late to move the REAR AXLE BACK to the center line of the box ??
for me it was all about proportions. i cut 9" out of mine to keep the wheel centered in the wheel well but to also have the same amount of body line before the wheel than after. i guess its still a little longer in back due to the stake pockets & gate but the line has the same proportions. i thought it look like it was just a little tail heavy. a shortened bed looked much more business to me. i got a '94 s10 for hauling shit, i felt like the A should be fore ripping shit up, thats just me though
I think I will try moving cab up if I can clear distributor.I dont think I have the skill for this job and getting someone else to do=$$$$$$.Leave as is and the hell with it I'm building a hot rod not a show truck.
29paul, That's one of the cool things about the HAMB- there are probably som guys in your area that would be glad to help you for a few slices of pizza and/or something cold and tasty!!!
Hey DRuss32 sounds like a plan. You help me I can help you and get some traditional hot rods in Richmond. Not these wax and wash I cant drive it I may chip my paint cars.
Two choices: 1 cut it so the front and the back of the bed match 2 move the rear axle back so they match.
I agree. I think about a 38-42 inch bed with the wheels centered is about right. Stock always have a bit too much overhange.
We went low with this rpu. Looks like moving the cab and bed forward a couple of inches would do the trick.
can someone on here photochop the bed lower? I think the height seems to be blowing the proportions. Length may be a little long, so start with small sections.
I immediately thought when I read this that it referred to length in the front. I realize that's not what you meant really, but then I took that idea and went with it in paint. I put the front wheels where they would end up with a suicide front end, made the rear wheels 10% bigger (also suggested earlier), and roughed in a windshield and hood line for proportion's sake. I left the rear axle in the same location. I, for one, like it there. One more idea for the pile.....
Take a look at Larry Shinoda's roadster pickup. He had the longer bed and it gives a more period (early rod) look. The severly shortened beds came later in hot rod history. So, pick your period and do what is necessary. Frank
Well here it is I cut out 5 inches out of bed. Welded back put little filler to smooth out and primed. It is now 42 inches instead of 48 shorter but not T bucket small. My attempt at a rear roll pan didnt want to see wood from under the bed.
I got the metal and a guy on my route made it for me for free.He was a old rodder 80ish.I delivered some parts for his 36 ford and made a buddy.Talk about hot rods when I made stops on his street. The bad thing is he past last year.Very cool guy.
