  9. Race Track all day friday, all day today at the Expo.

first time in my life I went looking for just parts needed to finish my truck. it is much easier to just buy anything cool then buy a car to fit it

Took me buddy there with me today. He didn't think it'd be that big, he was *****ing about the walk when we were half way done at P.I.R.!! Then I told him we were going to the big one. :D He hates me now! I did get to show him what a Starliner coupe looked like. His parents met back in the 50's when his mom broke into his dads Studebaker to steal cigarettes.

I didn't find anything I needed. Found no Y-block stuff, and the Packard guy closed up early. Spent all that time and money on $5 worth of tools. Not that many people there, the rain was doing a good job at keeping everyone away. I found a booth inside that had "H.A.M.B. FRIENDLY!" signs on it. There was no one around, and I got tired of waiting to meet who it was and moved on. Lots and lots of mini bike stuff out there, and if you have an early 70's GM truck it seemed every other booth was full of stuff for you.

Thursday was great weather at the race track. I picked up a a decent deuce grille with a nice insert there. It kind of fizzled down from that with the rain Friday and Saturday.

I found tons of good deals. I bought a new 33-34 Ford gas tank from Drake for 175.00!!! (there normaly like 350.00), and early Ford ****** (32-36) that looks nice inside for 35.00, 16"steelies, trim rings, 36 drive line, model A front spring and a 32 steering box...all that for 30.00!!!! and a super nice set of king bee lights for 60.00. This was all Saturday afternoon!!!! My buddy scored a nice set of refaced Johnson lifers WITH wrenches for 100.00. I thought there was some great deals.

  14. Well I headed out to PIR at 11:00 AM Thursday in our RV with 5 of us and a big black Lab. We were prepaired for the rain with long rain coats that my brother brought with him. The first thing I noticed just before we left, my tabs had expired!! So after getting Propane, tabs, Costco gas, stopping at Discount tire to check air pressure, I was $400 into the trip and 4 miles away. We just got on the freeway and saw a Snohomish County public works truck drop a metal rake off his truck. I couldnt avoid it and ran right over it. We wrote down the license plate just in case there was any damage. We had no place to pull over and everything seemed fine untill about 150 miles into the trip and wack wack wack wack bang bang bang bang. I pulled over and the inside tire on the dually was totally bald with steel showing all around with a perfect slice straight across the tire. The air valve was also ripped right out!! Just great!!! Only 40 miles to go and here we are stuck on the shoulder of I-5.
We brought a Garmin GPS and typed in Discount Tire , 57 miles away. Then we tried Les Schwab and there was one 7 miles away. Ahhh, Nice!!! So we limped to Les schwab tire and ended up dropping another $270 bucks!!!!!!!! So we finally got to the swap meet at 7:30 PM and parked in the RV vendors parking. I headed out with my friend to navigate where we would enter the next morning and the guys at the gate were just chatting away and asked about my Big Black lab and after answering a few dog questions, we walked in without p***es or anything. Two booths up, I scored 2 radiator grill shells for $5 each . This was starting real good.
It was starting to get dark so we headed back to the RV for a good nights sleep.
We woke up at 7:00 and headed out. We ended up walking around the track twice and then heading up to the pavillion up the hill. I found that the Pavillion was more expensive and had some nicer things but the people werent as flexible with their prices. I bought a cool old coin collection box from an old bus for $30 for the barn and that was all. If we brought our kart, I would have bought more things up there. We took the bus back down to the race track and I had to carry this damned 40lb coin box 1 mile around the damned track as the bus dropped us off at the main gate and not the venders gate. There werent any available 5 dollar golf carts the whole way back, they were eith full with others stuff or heading to pick up more things with other people!! Ugh!!! This Coin box started feeling like 400 lbs. I finally made it back to the RV with my treasure. We took a quick break and then headed back out.
There was alot of good deals at the track for some really nice cars and trucks if you were looking. I would vave bought about 15 of them if I had the money and space. I found a few mor grill shells that I offered less that half of the asking price and the people said take em away and then even gave me an old late 40s early fiftys power steering reservoir. That was it for Friday. We went back to the RV and had a few relaxing drinks and hit the sack at 9:00 pm. It felt like 2 in the morning. The next morning we walked the track twice again and my brother found a great deal on some Chevelle rims and got them for $50 less than the asking price and I bought a Dodge grill and a Plymouth grill for about 1/3 of the asking price. My friend bout a couple 57 buick tail lights for $5 and a 1957 license plate tag for $2. Our adventure back home Saturday night was non eventfull and averaged 8 mpg back home. All in all it was a great weekend. I got 6 grill shells, a couple nick nacks, and a f@$%@@ 4000 lb coin box ( at least it felt like it after carying it a mile)for under $175 but it cost me about $840 in gas, tires, propane, tabs, etc.
It was a cheap weekend, NOT!!!!!! But we all had a great time. My Black Lab slept all the way home, all night and is still sleeping today. I think he's more tired that we all are. Anyway thats my little take on PIR swap meet.
Oh and I also asked a bunch of people if they were Hamb members and or asked if they were on Hamb. Most all people looked at me very confused. LOL! Hey dude are you on Ham?

My brother and I only scored a few things, but the beautiful 34 headlights we got for 40 apiece made working all night on Wednesday before going to the racetrack and closing the place on Thursday, and getting there on Friday at zero dark thirty (0600, to get a decent parking spot before they opened), all worth while.

That is, until we both got sick Friday afternoon after each eating hotdogs from one of the racetrack concession stands.

I even picked up a couple of things "up on top" (Expo Center) on Saturday before I left to go home and get ready for work. Had to go solo and waste a pre-bought discount ticket because my brother didn't recover from his "Montezuma's revenge" in time.

No way you had time to see everything, even if you were trying.

I found a set of new Stelling & Stelling valve cover breathers in the box for $15, lots of other parts I needed that were pretty reasonable, a 56 F100 I had to have, and my buddy grabbed a SBC dual four setup, complete with linkage, air cleaners, and fresh gas in the bowls, for $100. There were lots of high priced cars that weren't selling, lots of the same parts that weren't selling, and some built-for-the-swap-meet cars that weren't selling. A good vehicle at a decent price would sell, but junk was sitting. It's tough to find good parts at swap meets, but there are some there if you dig.

Does anyone have any pictures of the 1951 Chevrolet Business Coupe that was there for sales? Original paint, American's, etc.? I would like to show a friend of mine who may be interested in the car if it is still for sale.

    Thank you.

I didn't get a pic of the '51 - but it definitely had a cool look. Not sure how the race track went, but by Friday afternoon, I'd bet nearly half of the cars that were complete and driving had sold on them. :)
