I was a couple steps up on a ladder Thursday when my foot slipped inside the ladder and I fell backwards. Long story short I snapped both the tibia and fibia between the knee and the ankle. I looked down at my foot and it was sideways to the leg. I'm 60 years old and this is the first time I ever broke a bone. Jeesus that hurt!!! I was in surgery for 3 1/2 hours and now I have more stainless steel than a Delorean has in my leg . Eight weeks before I'm up and running again. When something like this happens you realize how much we should appreciate Emergency room folks like our own Doc. Being fairly idle for 8 weeks is gonna be really hard on me. I'll probably be even crabbier than usual.
Damn Chaz! Sorry to hear about your slip-n-trip. Just try and use the next 8 weeks dreaming up your next creation. Here's wishing you nothing but the best. - RBR
I was going to give you some wise *** remark, but I don't want to jinx myself cause I could do it just as easy!! Good luck with the healing and surviving 8 weeks down!
Ouch that's gotta hurt. I hope they gave you lots of percodans 'cause it'll be tough to sleep without them! I wish you a speedy recovery and good room service!!
OUCH! Wishing you the best recovery. (from having broken my 9th bone recently playing raquet ball.....I was kinda of wild when I was younger, but never anythign that serious.....OUCH!)
Sorry to hear about that Chaz, hope they doped you up good at the hospital. That's a rather serious injury, here's to a speedy recovery.
I had an 8 week stint last June, of non weight bearing on my Left foot. I had an Achilles Tendon repair. I found that a wheel chair in the house and a rental scooter outside kept me from going nuts. Keep your leg elevated as much as you can stand and dont PO your Wife or Girl Friend........I tell you, you cant run one legged.
Wow Chaz, that hurts just hearing about it. I'll join everyone wishing you a speedy and (MOSTLY) pain free recovery. I say "mostly" cause thats where the drugs come in. The more you take the less pain. Frank
Sorry to hear about your accident. Your right about going nuts for 8 weeks. At least you have your computer and friends on the HAMB to keep you company. I was out for 4 weeks in December and it drove me nuts. It got to the point that I organized all the kitchen cabinets. I put all the canned goods in alphabetical order. Face it, that's to wierd. Best of luck and have a speedy recovery. Keith
...those good drugs will help with your dreaming and creating. Seriously, here's wishing you a speedy recovery.
It's no fun at all. The hamb movies & music have kept me from going crazy for the past two months. I'm just counting the days til i get my cast off. just nine more days!
That ****s. I can't imagine being totally immobilized for that long. Get some graph paper and plan out some concepts to p*** the time.
Ahhhhh...a friend of mine did almost the same thing as he started to reshingle his roof! Used a ladder as a platform on a scaffold with two pieces of plank to span the ladder. He walked on the **** joint where the two planks met in the middle. Fell thru the planks and off the scaffold. Snapped the old leg bones clean in two! Guess who ended up doing the roof along with his Father in law? Get well soon Chaz!
Man, I hate to hear about that. I wish you a speedy recovery. I've been out of work over 3 weeks with a back injury. I never thought I'd say it, but I miss work!
I just finished 8 weeks of sheetrock repair. I slipped off of the top step and promptly tumbled down 2 flights of stairs, still not sure how it started or how I made the turn.. Laying on my back, at the bottom step, legs wedged against the rail, looking at the ceiling wondering when it would start to hurt. 40 years old, bald, 6'7", 245 lbs wadded up in a 3 foot ball. Fell down the ****ing stairs. Well, it didn't hurt. Completely unhurt, just confused. Then I looked at the walls. That hurt. Hope you are doing well.
well i kinda know how you feel and it ****s. i compressed/ruptured 3 disc in my back and had to retire way early in my life, doctor said you cant put yourself at risk anymore "want to be paralyzed?" he said. well needless to say i do things a little slower than i used too and very carefully. but the main ***** is now that arthritis has set in the injury i am one hell of a weather man!!! that will probably happen to you after you heal up, youll know when a front is coming though. i do hope you get feeling well and make sure you take care of yourself and listen to what the doctor says, he really does know best.
The good thing with sheetrock, though, is the Mud (joint compound) will cover all imperfections. Of course, thats also the bad thing about sheetrock(Sanding, sanding, and Sanding some more!) Glad you didnt get huret though
Could have been worse . You might have broken both hands then couldn't get on the HAMB . My best medical advice would be ...don't do that again . I'm 60 as well and have bashed , crashed , smashed and burned almost everything at one time , including not ducking fast enough once in Viet Nam . It's something I worry a lot about onna counta I'm a lot more fragile and still have to do risky things like you were doing . Well , buddy I hope you have a good resolution and you have good friends on the HAMB .
be glad that you did break the bones instead of what i did. had an injury caused by similar stresses on my leg but didn't break, only tore things to ****. now when i wiggle my right big toe, you can hear things grinding in my leg and ankle across the room. doesn't feel too hot either. got tired of hearing the "you'd heal better if you had broken it" line from all the medical folks involved get well quick and heal up enough for all three pedals
The worst part is the therapy that follows. I shattered my left wrist from a bike crash 4 years ago. It took some screws and a plate to fix. Took 16 weeks of therapy to get my wrist to move correctly. I was out of work for 18 weeks and was losing my mind.
We don't bounce like we did when we were teenagers, that's for sure. I've had a couple of near misses recently, I'm 59 and haven't actually broken anything yet except 5 ribs when I got hit by my own surfboard, but even scratches, stresses and strains take forever to heal these days. Take it easy, do lots of reading, plan a project, write some stuff, enjoy the HAMB! Cheers, Glen.
Chaz--Sorry to hear of your misfortune. May everything heal up well with a minimum of pain. Its hard to remember that we're not 24 no more!!!
Made me wince, just reading about your fall. Best wishes for a speedy recovery!! I think you get a free p*** now to stay off of ladders.......cruzin and wrenchin good....ladders bad!!
Oh no, so sorry to hear of your mishap. We hope you will heal quickly. Doc. is here with us at the Roundup, we will p*** on your bad news. Ken &
[I was in surgery for 3 1/2 hours and now I more stainless steel than a Delorean has in my leg have . Now you need to change you signature to DMC hope you get well soon.
