guys and gals, i am talking with the milan dragway about holding a event out their for next year as this year is booked up, i am wondering, if i can pull this off, how many would be interested. as i am still debating bout a 2 day event, drag racing of 65 and older, car showing coral and last but not least a swap meet if our race track can pull well over 400 racers and some 20k of people for pinks last year alone we should be able to get a good showing for this I am going to be talking more with milan dragway, kalita motorsports, fisher honda (being my old boss and he sponsers kalita), if i can get hold of shirley, connie, don and who ever else i can get to come along as well, basically it will hopefully draw lots of people from michigan, ohio, indiana and anywhere else
This was done many years ago there.. It was the nostalga nats i thinks they called it.. I was there with my 29 A Tudor and we also had a 32 5 winder.. Had a ball.. They also got jerry moreland to come up with his blown 40 c-dan but they never got it running right ... Yup ill come Dave
Don't let my son see this. We aren't even done with his truck and we watched Shakey Puddin' on YouTube last weekend and he read the article in Zombie's mag about Mr. Chevy written and shot by our very own Kustombuilder and ****o. Now he wants to build either a '55 g***er or use the extra truck parts we have to build a g***er '54 Chevy 3100! We are in, even as spec' taters and/or swappers. Watch out for the Billetproof and Cinematic weekends, though.
I sold my little 12 second VW to buy my 54 Ford, so no racing for me this year. I would be up for a show and swap for sure. Please dont make it between July 11th and 20th. This could be awesome I am there!
If yer talking about having it THIS year than having my '41 Plymouth ready is a pipe dream. I would still attend though, sounds like a blast.
Get together with Falcon G***er. He started a thread earlier about doing the same thing at Lapeer Dragway. You could probably combine your efforts. http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=243872
I live 15 minutes from there. I'll do it. Done or not, gotta bring something too. Might be "under construction" though. Sometimes they're the best anyways. Be clear about your attendees though. Will you exclude 65 Mustangs? I wouldn't. Make it year specific only vs a car list. A certain Barracuda comes to mind also. Car show/drag race events don't always work well together but Milan's got enough space to make it happen. Keep us posted!!
Ahhh!! the 'ol stompin' grounds... Well kinda.. for 17 years I used to live not much more than 6 or 7 minutes from the track, and on a clear/ still day I could hear 'em. Hell yeah I'll be there!!
It would be a cool time 4 shore. We could also just pick a weekend to just meet up this year. I have not checked there website, are they holding any type of vintage drags there this year. The Blue Suede Cruise at Norwalk also might be cool time. Jessman49
still talking with milan as they are only willing to do like a 9am to 12 am race on a saturday beacause of their points chase during the summer months tring to get them to do a sept or oct date being the dont have point then, racing would be the only problem, but we could hold the races in early am and do a swap meet and car show all day though, i seem to have alot of people interested in this event so i am going back later this week with a couple of racers to see if we can get this done for a day long event would you guys and gals have a problem doing a early am race, and the rest of it during the daywhile they run their normal points chase if we can get it only during the summer months??????????
Sounds like a great time.......nothing like the smell and sound of burnin rubber in the morning.....lol.
I run there every Sunday in their points program. I like the idea of September or October after their points program is over. A couple of suggestions: Try to schedule it so other events (Blue Suede @ Norwalk, ididit @Te***seh, Frankenmuth @ well, Frankenmuth, etc.) aren't in conflict with your date. Be willing to have it in conjunction with other bracket cl***es being run so they can have a chance of making money on us. If you restrict it to only H.A.M.B.ster-legal jalopies your car count will not be enough to sustain the event. Contact Groups like Gunslingers Nostalgia Altereds (Ray Hudic) and Nostalgia Funny Car ***ociation (Steve Tymosek) who can bring in members to run. Be prepared to give out appearance money to some of the "hitters" as an inducement to show up. It may not take much - gas money and/or paid entry goes a long way. I know two local FED top fuelers who would put on a great race for a small stipend. Publicize it early and often. Their previous "nostalgia" races were never publicized to any great extent and eventually died out. Now you have the power of the internet to make this happen. Good luck with this. If you can revive it it will have the legs to continue, much like the G***er Reunion in Thompson now held every year. PM me if you want to discuss further. Greg
