I've been in need of a small utility trailer and yesterday I was given the frame of an old pop-top camper.

It has 4 lug 8" wheels and I would like to run something larger. By my measurements, the bolt circle pattern looks to be 4". What vehicles commonly had 13" wheels with this size pattern?

    Thanks in advance,
    Mike Bynum

I belive that MG midgets, vegas had that bolt pattern.
northern handy man has them in 12 inch with tires not very expensive.

As chopnchaneld said, 70s Vegas/ Sunbirds and some BMCs used a true 4x4 pattern. Any trailer shop should be able to fix you up fairly cheap, though.

  4. Fwiw, my local Wally World has trailer wheels with mounted tires.
    You could measure those.

Be careful though, I was given a set of 88 Chevy 1/2 ton pickup wheels for my tandem axle car trailer.
    Nice wheels, caps etc.

I pulled one wheel off my reputed to be 5 lug Chevy wheels and the 88 Chevy wheel slid on all the way.

Looked good, so I installed the trailer tires on the 88 Chevy wheels.

Once the first lugnut was tightened I could see the wheels wouldn't work.
They were metric and the pattern was not concentric enough for the US Chevy pattern and would not seat the lugnuts where they should.

    Back to the tire shop....:(

  5. Another place to watch it is; Pinto and VW Bug - and other Dub genres - have very similar size wheels.

I got caught out on this one as well.

One small suggestion, get a couple pair - or three - older mag wheels and re-drill them to the pattern you want.

C9, thanks! Great info! I'll be keeping that list. Will watch out for the Dub stuff.
    36-3 (or anyone else), will a 5 x 4-1/2" hub fit on the same 4 x 4"spindle I currently have?
Problem is, I need to do this entirely on the (safe) CHEAP, but I will be towing trailer at highway speeds and want larger than 8" rims.

  7. Look up Redneck Trailer. You might have a dealer near you. Their catalog lists trailer wheel hubs, might be able to match by wheel bearing part numbers to get 5 lug.
