I'm looking for a source of "distressed/antiqued" leather. It pains me to write this, as I normally hate fakery, but I don't want glossy new leather in my hot rod.
I just got a book of samples from Goliger Leather. http://www.goligerleather.com/ There are a few good samples in there of distressed leather.
Have you tried Oregon Leather Company? http://www.oregonleatherco.com/index.html 110 NW 2nd Ave Portland, OR 97209-3996 503-228-4105 Its worth stopping by and seeing what they have, and what they can get. -Jeff
hit craigslist tons of free leather couches and chairs. good idea for making a cheap interior that will last.
I stripped the leather for my Modified from a Volvo estate on it's trip to the crushers - distressed by dozens of east anglian antique dealers carting furniture....
Weaver leather. They make distressed looking purses, and such. They have a website. They have quite few to choose from. I bought a whole cow hide. Heres my seats.
i got 3 hides for my burban from the local furniture upholstery people. it was distressed new leather in a dark red/brown. turns out that because they aren't designed for outdoor use the color sun faded badly. so if you go the furniture direction ask about uv treatment on the material. it takes a full cow to make a small bench seat so if you have more to do it's up to your supplier to match hides.
If you can't find it or it's too expensive, just use regular leather and distress it yourself. Some 400 grit paper or steel wool work wonders. Flatman
The way it would have been done in the 40's or 50's would be, get new leather and drive it, till it looks like ****. Wait a month or 2, Street Rodder mag. will have an article on how to make your seats look bad. This hobby is on a downhill slide. IMHO
First of all. Leather back then was cow hide. They call sheep skin goat skin ext leather now. Your right about the hobby thou. Posted from the TJJ App for iPhone & iPad
To be fair the hobby is not going downhill, folks want a specific look. Patina'd worn leather might take 40 years of casual driving to get the desired effect. My buddy did the thrift store leather jacket route. I think it turned out pretty cool even if its a little boxier then he had hoped. Btw this thread is like 5 years old and I'd have to ***ume zgears has already found a solution. JohnnyA
