I'll do this in a couple installments. First the trip, then the cars.

Preface: Myk did some insane work leading up to this and my car was finished Wednesday night and we were scheduled to leave town Thursday after lunch. I put 50 miles on it Wednesday night and 50 more Thursday morning… then it was time to hit the road.

Before we ever left DFW Myk had already pissed off the wrong cop and gotten three tickets

Oh well. Can’t $600+ in fines ruin Roundup weekend! So we hit the road

I led the way down with Myk and Justin in the ’27 roadster, Aaron and his dad in the Hudson, Brandon and Jeff in the ’61 Galaxy. We figured that if anyone was going to have problems it would be me so I took point. Well there’s a slight shimmy in the front end between 65 and 75 (I was told) but I don’t have a speedo. I was just letting the car tell me how fast to go.
After 100 miles or so, at a gas station, they tell me, “Man you’re a horrible fucking leader! You’re hauling ass!” I thought we were just Cadillackin’ along but apparently, as Myk put it, we were “poundin’ ground” and hauling ass near 80 but all the cars were taking it just fine.

Friday was a killer day. Parked the cars off of Congress

Then went to Docs and spent the entire afternoon drinking cheap Lone Stars and shootin’ the shit with an awesome crowd of people.

Later that evening I had some carb trouble.

Thanks to the guys who helped me get out of that lot and get it parked. I'll save my comments about the laughter.
I’ll let someone else tell their view of it if they want. I was too pissed to remember details. Anyway, I parked my car for the night…

Partying on Congress kicks so much ass.

This is where everyone’s night started to get blurry. LOL

It’s also about the time we decided to go see Bleed
I don’t remember anything other than it kicking SERIOUS ass. Bob Bleed had his roadster parked right out front of Trophy’s. They rocked on stage… then apparently since I was being the most drunk, loud crazy ass in there he jumped down off the stage and came and started playing right there in front of us in the crowd.

Luckily my bed was a 5 minute walk from Trophy’s.
Saturday afternoon was spent at the show. Pics of that later. Saturday night Denny and I did a carb swap in a parking lot and then rolled over to ASS.

We missed the bulk of the party so I went back to Fran’s on Congress. Watched Aaron do some striping and then crashed.

Finally, here are some pics of the trip home.

    Awesome, man!

So what did the cop pop Myk on? Any mechanical infractions? Just curious since its registered as antique.

Nothing mechanical. Apparently the cop kept calling it a dune buggy... telling Myk it wasn't an antique, giving him a hard time about registration and some other stuff. I don't remember exactly. He'll probably pop in here.

He does an amazing job of offsetting my horrible luck.

Sunday morning I was still having some carb troubles. It started with just me messing with it and when it was all said and done there were 6 or 7 of us standing around. Libby looked at Myk and said, "Well, everyone's just standing here. What's the plan."

Myk takes a drag and replies, "Well... I'm gonna stand here and smoke this cigarette. I'm going to wait for the car to acknowledge my presence and then it's gonna to start right up."

No shit, he reached in a minute later and cranked it up, first try. LOL

Then when we got back in DFW we stopped at a gas station for a bit. As we were leaving I cranked mine up right as a cop was rolling through the lot. They stopped right in front of me and waved me over. I shut the car off thinking I was going to catch some crap for the pipes, but he ended up just wanting to BS about our cars and ask questions. After a few minutes they told us to be safe and have a good evening.

Now I'm not sure Myk was talking to the cops as they left of to Brandon and Jeff (who were parting ways with us), but I heard him yell "Later haters!" The cop just waved at him as they pulled out :D

Matt, don't let the carb troubles bring ya down, you're still a rock star for rollin' that car to Austin and back.

Ok, I take it back. That is fuckin' rock star right there!

Edit: don't let the "crash test Danny" avatar fool you...

I know, I know... I took a car down there and that's all that really matters.

But damn, that really was a kick in the nuts. :(
The float stuck (and I couldnt get it unstuck with the ol' 'beat the hell out of it' technique) or there was some trash in the needle & seat and it was just dumping fuel so it wouldn't run for shit. Even at 3,000+ rpm it was stumbling all over itself.

Looking back, I probably should have left it in that parking lot overnight and attacked it the next day, but I was staying less than 1/2 mile down Congress and I didn't like the idea of leaving it there all night after everyone left.

Some guys helped push me out of the parking lot (and thats when the crowd started to gather) then I got it started out in the street (cameras started to flash). I was trying to keep the revs up but it still kept dying... then the "ha ha's" got a little louder... I limped it down to the apt. building next door to Trophy's that I was staying and got it running again on Saturday.

Oh well. I got to make some Congress passes on Saturday night and it made it back to DFW just fine. It wouldn't be a real road trip without some stories, right?

I still don't get that. What kind of clown laughs at a hot rod because it's running rough? They must be patting themselves on the back for that decision to put a TPI 350 in their tri-five Chevy.
