Finally sold my Triumph motorcycle and was able to pick up another 50's car..... Im in the middle of putting new floor pans in it right now. Once thats done I will brace the interior and begin planning the chop. Its a 2 door club sedan... I know alot prefer not to chop it these days but with it being a club sedan that back window seems to be a bit easier to configure without needing to get a different one. Always wanted a chopped top also. Anyway, this will be my first chop so I'm wondering if theres anyone around the Detroit area that wouldnt mind stopping by for a few pointers?.... and beer of course!. Thanks, - Jon
haha, guess I should have said another Michigan HAMB CHOP. Lots of cool folks down there that know what they're doing. Norton
just got done reading the entire chop, damn you guys are good, i remember the wind storm and that day ****ed, that car looked awsome though if their is to be another chop count me in
Not anywhere near you but wish I could help. Check out www.50chevy.com and look thru the pics you can get a pretty good Idea of what you do or do not want your car to look like that is what I did with my 53 chebby 210 and it turned out pretty nice. I will post up some pics if you would like. When I chopped mine I tried to make the back side windows as long as possible it seems like the lines flow a little better. I ended up using a rear window out of a 1950 fleetline I had to take some of the curve out but other than that it was pretty easy.
If you set up another chop, I'm in. Do you have a shop to work with or are you planning to do this at home?
It will be done at home... depending on the turnout I may relocate it about a mile up the road to my parents house. My dad has a spare garage/shop that can host a few more people than my garage but there just no bathroom. We have all of the neccessary tools and materials between the two locations (tig, mig, torches, plasma cutter, grinders, planishing hammer, english wheel, shot bag,etc etc....) Ill just move the stuff over to which ever place I decide to use. Ive been researching the chop for awhile.. Once I get these floors done I will have a little more insight on the time frame to schedule something like this! I dont have any connections to a shop that could ***ist in tackling something like this. - Jon
I wouldnt mind seeing a few pictures of your chop?... What was the original body style of your 210? Im wondering if I will still need a doner back window, or if the rear will flow well....?
I had the wrap arround rear window but looking at your rear window I would say that yours will work out just fine. I had to get a donor because I didnot like the looks of the wrap arround when chopped. I will get some pics out to you as soon as I can get some recent ones. Jeremy
Ha..I just came across this thread. I'm also in Troy, and I'm planning a 4 door to 2 door conversion and a chop in the next month or so on a 51 Chevy. I'd be up for helping out any time you need it....if anything, just to sharpen up for my own chop. PM me if you need a hand. I've got plenty of tools and a welder I can load in the truck to help out.
i am in clawson. i wouldnt mind stopping over too. sounds like a good time. Cars + Beer = good time. keep us posted when you are planning on doing it.
