Mom has been seeing this Hamber, Old Bob Sign, (Larry), and I invited them both to come down and get the 25 cent tour.

She's never been to my new shop and has wanted to but never had the time. I threw an invite to him and asked if he would drag her with him, I also hinted that I wouldnt be to awful upset if he were to throw his brush and some one-shot in the truck.:D

So they come down today and Larry lays out his kit and sets up a play area for me.

I played a little, it is fun, soon after my wife and kid shows up. I grabbed the kid and set her down in the play area. Larry gave her a few instructions and she layed down her first lines. He took a lot of time to show her how to contol the brush, and how to practice to get the brush control.

After a few more hints and a chunk of 49 ford windshield she starts again, this time was a little more relaxed, WOW! It was so cool to see her layin this thing down, she has a decent eye for symmetry and has a nack for starting and finishing the lines. The design just kinda flowed from her. AND the most important thing was she had a blast and is lookin foward to the practice! Not bad for a13 year old who had never touched a striping brush before!

Larry was kind enough to leave a her first brush,, a 00 Mack, and a can of one-shot!! I think he created a monster!!

So anyway, this is what he did for me!

This is one of the first clocks I made 10 years ago, and its MY clock. It has survived a couple falls, once while on fire. It looks better than ever!

Larry also did this clock for the Wierdo from Wayland, and the Rust Revival.

This one is unbelievable! The detail level and size of the signature blows me away!

SO,, Thanks Larry for the time and effort, for showing me and the kid the basics and I'm really glad that you guys came down!!

Nice to see the skill p***ed on. Larry is a very talented and giving person. Keep you daughter interested and she will turn out fine. Starting young is an advantage a she will have time to develope her style and get good at it.

Soon as I got home from the shop she hit me up for more colors.

I'm gonna start taking her to the shop after school so she can practice. The wifey is happy about it as well.

And I can't stress enough how happy I am that Larry did this for us, although I really shouldnt have had him do the clocks,, I lost about an hour of work time today just lookin at them!

  18. ........I'll second that thought......he's a great guy!! Nice story.......thanks for sharing!

Beautiful striping, and it's great to see a "young one" interested in picking up a brush load of enamel. I need to get myself motivated to break out some brushes again and spend some time practicing.

Here's a video that always puts a grin on my face. Dave Smith is a British signwriter who is a contributor like myself at iStockphoto.com. Dave does some incredible gl*** gilding and designed a new style of gilder's tip for applying gold leaf to gl***. To show how well it works he made a couple videos including this one of his 7 year old daughter using it to lay sheets of gold on gl***. She looks to be a natural at it.
