LEAF SPINRGS: Can anyone give me a good source for getting new leaf springs or ideas on what I should do to correct the "Too Low" Situation I have created. I installled reversed eye mono leafs on the front for my '64 F100 and now I am into the bumpstops too easily. I have looked at purchasing new F100 leafs, but $299 ea seems little high (yes I got rid of the originals too soon). Where could i get a more common leaf to that truck? AXLE: Second question, with raising the truck back up a bit, I would still like it to stay low. I had been watching the 3" dropped axles from speedway on occasion, but last night noticed that they were discontinued. Any thoughts on lowering it back down? Should I just bite the bullet and start saving for an IFS install?
Look in the yellow pages for your local spring and axle service. They will probably be big truck oriented. They can measure your set up and rearch what you have or replace them with new ones to spec. You may be able to have the stock axle dropped to suit. Look around at roadsters.com.
My first thought was "can't you just flip the leaf spring upside down?" That should un-reverse the reversed eye springs, and should gain you back a couple inches. Gene
try looking in HEMMINGS MOTOR NEWS for EATON SPRINGS. they should be able to fix you up. other wise hit the junk yards, or consider c- notching and boxing the frame for clearance and strenght.
Alcan Spring in Grand Junction, CO made a really nice set for my '54 f2. They will pretty much do anything you want. Maybe ask if they can add arch to your existing set first. Very easy to deal with. Eaton made a set for me once, very easy to work with also.
"to low"????? they are never to low almost always to High cut out or remove the bump stops that should give you and inch or two
A spring shop could modify original springs to a point. Don't attempt to have the monoleaf springs rearched or modified. Tapered leaf and monoleaf springs make a weird sound in the arching press during failure/flight action. It's best to have a good wall between you and that sound. Trust me.
It is not too low from an appearance standpoint, actually i would like a couple more in the front. I just went about it the wrongy and need to correct it so that i can be driven more then 30 mph.
Why not notch the frame above the front axle much like some of us do with the deuces? We do it for spring clearence but I don't know you couldn't do the same for axle clearence,,HRP
I have the monos on the front. If i were to do it again, i would not. They ride fine (After i bought them i heard the few stories about them failing - it all you have when it goes, all hell breaks loose)
the front leaf springs run directly under the frame rail. I dont think the notch would help. If they were located as they are in the rear (outbound of the rails) then yes a notch would start to solve the problem.
