YouTube Q

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by C9, Apr 10, 2008.

  1. What is the minimum of equipment needed to make 5-10 minute movies to post to YouTube?

I don't need the latest and greatest, just whatever would be needed.

I have an 8mm video recorder and the capability to transfer the 8mm to VHS tape.

Along with that I have quite a few 80's & up gas cl*** and Super Gas stuff from various strips around the SoCal area on VHS tape.

I'm guessing it may be a step up to get a newer videocam for recording nowadays.
These use a 'disc' like a DVD only physically smaller?

What would I need to transfer VHS to a YouTube or movie format?

And perhaps some information about movie making programs so I could insert and remove scenes?

If you have a tv card in your PC you could connect your vcr directly to your computer. This will allow you to record directly to your hard drive (with video software). Most tv cards come with some software that you can use to put the vcr tapes to digital. I have done this and turned vhs tapes into dvds. I used pinnacle instant cd/dvd. This lets me edit and make chapters just like a commercial DVD.

    Hope this makes sense

I bought a unit a couple of years ago to copy all my old family VHS tapes. I never got the damn thing to work. You might try Tiger Direct ( www.tigerdirect.com). They have a ton of A/V stuff.
With the cost of electronics coming way down, I asked and got a new video camera for Christmas..it was about $150 or so. I found a place on the web called Woods Power grip ( www.powergrip.com ) that makes a va*** pump unit to mount your camera. The mount was $49. The entire idea was to be able to film all my riding in the T. Here is a pic of the mount and how it fits on my dash . It will even draw down on the door of the car but haven't tried that yet. The mount seems to be perfect for my purpose. Here is a 2 minute youtube taken from he mount as you see it.
