I've come across a decent 41 here in town but have always loved 40 front ends. Can I put 40 front sheetmetal on a 41 Coupe?
41 Fords are the same as 46, 47 and 48 Fords. 40s are the same as 38, 39, 40. Definately not a bolt on, but anything is possible....If it were me, I would let it be a 41. They look bitchn as a hot rod or custom. Good luck, -Abone.
The only difference between the front end on a 40 and a 41 Chevy is that they molded the headlights in the fenders in 41. At least as far as I know.
A '40 Ford Deluxe coupe is one of the best designs ever, in my opinion, but a '41 can be a very nice looking ride
40-41 look like the same design to me???? (main difference is the headlight change.) 42 looks like 46-48 except the grille is different.
terry, dont know how close they are,but a 40 merc front looks a heck of a lot like a 40 ford, but the rear of a 40 merc looks more like a 41-up.i know the 40 merc front is wider than a 40 ford, maybe it might be closer to a 41-up? might be worth some measuring just to see, but then again if it was possible someone would have already done it.
There is a 41 Ford(streetrod) running around Hasting Michigan that has a 40 grill in it. Not sure from memory if everything was 40 or just the grill. But as for your question, yes anything is possible if you cut and modify enough. I myself would not get rid of a 41 front end but I am bias. I can use some of the small parts if you do decide to part with the 41 front end.
'41's were built to be kustomized and not rodded as far as I'm concerned. '40 Fords look cool rodded sitting on a dagoo with wide whites and flames.
No, actually - even though they look similar - the 40 Chevy is a completely different car than the 41. The 41 is a larger dimension body and no parts are interchangeable (not without major modifications anyway). The 41 actually shares the same body with the 46-48 Chevys. The 40 - for some odd reason - was a one-year only body (not even the same as the 39). A moot point since he's talking about a Ford now.
IMAO, The '41 is better looking than the '46-'48 Ford. The latter are too "flat faced". My all time favorite that era FoMoCo face is the '41 Mercury. I've seen a '41 Merc front end on a '41 Ford but don't know for sure if it's a bolt on or not because I don't know if the wheelbase is the same. But it can't be much different if at all.

Cleatus, you're right!! I built a 40 chevy coupe in High School and soon found out after i bought it thats its a ONE YEAR ONLY CAR! this means only 40 parts will fit a 40 and absolutely nothing else. heres a small breakdown. 40's were the first year of the 'alligator' hood that was changed from the old 'butterfly' hoods that the 37-39's had. 40 was also the last year with outside running boards. in 41 the ditched them and made them part of the rocker panels and giving the bottom of the doors that little bump out. also, on a 40 the hood sides that come up from the fender to meet the bottom of the hood are a seperate piece from the fender. on a 41 its part of the fenders the goes up to meet the bottom edge of the hood. My dad has had a 38 chevy master since i was 4, and my first car i ever bought was an all orginal 48 chevy stylemaster sedan so ive been around these old chevy's a long time and found out how hard it is sometimes to get 40 chevy parts. rear glass for a coupe is almost impossible
