The axle arrived earlier this week and Thurs night Bill and myself got together and went through to check fit of the other parts we have. Everything seems to be workable. The axle is just too cool. Not no aftermarket piece but a stock axle that was dropped. Very cool. 5wbomber thanks a million you came through for us. Oh and sorry to hear about your finger. Having the axle we now need to put a spring together so we dragged Leon out of his house. Guys was sick as a dog but we need that reverse eye spring he had. Sure enough he drag himself to the shop spring in hand. Pieced it together with a shorter spring that was donated and we have the right size spring with reverse eye. Tonight I am digging out a few parts I have that we might need tomorrow and Bill is gone shopping for some shackles and gathering up what he has home for the build and tomorrow we plan on piecing together Andy`s front end. Wish us luck that we have a good day with no troubles. Let you guys know how we made out tomorrow night. http://s241.photobucket.com/albums/ff118/Hambandy/
Looks Great guys....Sorry I could'nt make it out thursday. But i had the flu. i'll try to drop in tommorow! Andy
Hay Andy. don`t you worry about tomorrow. You get over that flu first.Be if you feeling better tomorrow by all means drop by. Harrison thank you very much. I find it hard to keep track of what came from who but feel that you guys need to be thanked in a big way. Any others that see your parts speek up. Want to say thanks to each and ever one of you guys.
Andy im glad you were not there or the spring would have not arrived......no damn way would i be around you as sick as i am...you dont need that!!!! The amazing thing bout this build is how good it makes everyone feel, we build the toughest kid a kool ride and we get to shoot the **** about what we love....hot rods. Sorry that one of ours has lost a finger (5wbomber) that ****s. But i would like to personally thank everyone here for being a part of the HAMBANDY project. Leon
Was there a revised list of what you guys still needed? If so can you lead me to it? I may have some things to help out on this one.
We will all be at the build tommorrow so i will yak with everyone to see what we still need. Thanks for asking. Leon
did i ever send the wheel nut`s?(it`s getting so i can`t remember what day it is.)i noticed that andy from texas suggested napa #641-3207 were the right studs to hold the buick drums to the hubs;will they work?it`s hard to tell from the picture but it looks like the stirrations on the shoulder of the studs are further out and will grad firmly into the steel hub. chris
You've had all winter, how come this isn't a driver yet? I want to see those tires we sent getting roasted!
Excuse Danimal guys, he's having a bad day trying to get everyone together and make some progress on his son's truck. Now, for the subject at hand. It's good to see something being done on Andy's car. I'm sure with the weather finally trying to break (at least here) Andy is getting anxious to see some progress. Once again I want to extend a big THANK YOU to everyone taking part in this. I can ***ure you that if it was closer you'd have more help than you could use. But, as it's not possible, we'll just cheer you on. Keep us updated on the progress. Frank
Good grief Dan, Andy will give you the smoke show you want....nooo worries. The weather is getting better and we are starting to get all our pieces together for Andys car. We are looking for a couple sets of shackels if any one has a set or 2. Yes Chris you did send the nuts and we have the studs now so we are good on this part. I just left the shop and Bill and Fitz are working on the front end (im sure you will be updated) Andy stopped by and picked up some parts to get sandblasted and preped. Wheels are gone out to be checked and then balsted finished and the tires mounted. Look for updates....... And Dan..............relax bro, breath a little.... Leon
Another full day and night. had some troubles but everthing worked out in the end. I`m bushed and it late here so right to the point. we got under way around 10:30 this morning and first thing was to strip apart the old wish bones. One pin put up a fight but we heated, drilled and pounded till it let go. Next we cut the damaged tubs off. and put the axle togeather with what we have, never had a shackel kit so we made do with some flat bar a few nuts and bolt and made our own 3M bushings!!!! bolted it all in place and the new wish boans to see how everthing will work. Everthing is looking good, we have a few small inssues but they are under control. Bill took the bone home with him so he can prep them and weld them up.We can mock up everthing and keep going on the frame but like leon said a shackel kit for the front is a must. don`t think that my 3M bushing will last very long. That all for now.I`m off to bed.
lookin good guys! so so soooo glad you got the axle, i was bummed for a while, if you need anything else just let me know, it made me feel so good dropping that axle for andy!!! thanks everybody for helpin them out! -jordan
The axle looks great Jordan! Makes the ch***is look the part to see that drop! Clears the stock steering arm fine too...although we will need to reform it a little to p*** under the splitbone. Man...we were really hung up on the axle as we needed to start up front and work our way back. Getting stuff into our hands has been a real problem. The Border patrol HATES us!!!!! LOL We have some built in fudge factor for body placement/wheelbase at the rear but the stance of the car is determined by the front axle. We needed that 4" drop or we had to rethink a number of issues on a car thats already high in profile. We have to remove a leaf from the front spring and make some new shackle plates to get it down a bit more. The ones I bought Wed night hoping to use were way too long to play with and the ones Fitzee had kicking around were shorter, but still too long to actually use. Worked for this initial mockup though... Plates are easy and will be done locally of course...but we need some slip in bushings if anyone has any kicking around! 3M tape just won't cut it! Hmmmm...whats the bolt diameter on the slip ins? Need that to make the plates! The wishbones are a combo of 48 style front forgings that came with the body and straight tube lengths from an old late 30's Ford..."up in the woods". A mutual friend of ours hauled the axle home to use in his own project and destroyed the forged ends that were on the tubes in an effort to get the axle out! Fitzee gave them a home anyway and now they are p***ed on to Andy. One good thing...cutting them up allowed inspection of the inner surface and they are NICE! Solid as a rock. We cut the spring mounts off the forgings and will clean them up better once the bones are rejoined into full pieces. I love the look of the high mount forgings with the straight tube. Gotta make a run to the s****yard and get some big tierods, threaded tubes and tapered ****on donors to make the drop brackets! Frame brackets will be short too. Gonna be cool. Chris is bringing the Flatty to his shop this week for clean up and header/intake installation. Pumps are weeping too to so that will get attention...but other than that the engine is said to be sweet. Once the axle and bones are set up ANDY himself intends to do the cleanup and painting of those parts...as he will with the rearend and truck arms once we get to those! (Soon!) We're almost at the point where several additional people will have their own jobs to do on various parts of the build. (Actually...its starting now with the engine!) Things will speed up then! Chris and Andy...Thanks for the "Mary Browns" chicken dinner box! That was not expected and CERTAINLY not required!!! Fitz and I were gonna order a Pizza. Much appreciated! Mary really does have the "BEST legs in town!" Hahaha Oh! Forgot to mention. PERCH BOLTS ****...
