thanks! yea, i acutally just found that same link. i was being dumb before and for some reason was searching ebaymotors rather than plain ol' ebay. thanks alot!
call Rod Hemmick in San Antonio 210-687-0513 I get my plates from him..last got a nice set of 34s from him...one odd thing to watch out for, I recently bought a car with 53 plates on it and at DPS tried to have them tranferred to my name and she said the previous owner had (mistakedly?) registered them as vanity plates and those aren't transferable? I have to go get a release from him?.....
You got it. Thats the way the law reads. Now I'm not saying you don't stand a chance of getting h***led, I've heard of it, but a lot of guys skip the front plate. As long as you can qoute the law and dont mind being h***led, then yes its legal to only run the rear. But you still have to have the front when you go and get them approved to run.
I run YOM Cl***ic plates on the Thunderbird. I have to get it inspected and run window stickers. Antique YOM get the tag for the rear plate and no window stickers. I wish I had gone antique, who knows where i'm going. Usually somthing car related, like to the shop or to a show. I got mine on Ebay because of the low numbers.

Cool. yeah, i think i'm gonna memorize that and carry a copy of it in the glovebox! haha! Between Harris County and HPD...i'm sure i will get h***eled...but i'm willing to risk it. it kinda comes with being a "younger" guy in a hotrod, old car, cl***ic, ect. thanks again! chris
I found a bad*** set of '60s on Craiglist for HAMB'r CaddyRat a month or so ago. So you just have to keep your eyes open. I think I have a single '53 but that does no good.
Jesse is your best bet!! I've bought 2 sets from him, so have alot of my buddies.. Shouldn't be more than 75 bucks for a perfect pair...
interesting that.....46 farm truck tag on the pickup, been on it for about 5 years....no one ever mentioned a thing about it having to be a farm vehicle. guess i better get going on that dental floss spread
my buddy just registered his 52 texas farm truck plates and i know for a fact it is not registered as a farm truck. IT all depends on which "employee" you get. I heard from everyone you need both plates in hand at the DMV. I went in with one plate, and five minutes lated walked out with my new "tab" in hand. LIke I said, it all depends on which employee you get! P.S. If that employee tells you something you dont want to hear, try another tax office, or another employee. Crash.
Here is the guy who sells Old TEXAS plates Larry & Gwyn Machacek P.o. Box 1487 conroe Tx 77305 (936)-441-8209 and like i said he will even give you the paper work for the plates.....
Outstanding thread. I've been looking for a pair of 1937 Texas plates in anticipation of my glorious return to the motherland.
Yep, I just happened to draw the wrong employee at the ***le service...on the other hand, I also realize having "farm truck" plates registered to an urban address would also give the city's finest a reason to pull me over..... It will be fixed soon
Sorry to be posting to an old thread...but I did a search and "subject" fit what I was looking for.... Is anyone (in Texas) here on this Board running "model year correct" Texas license plates on their "antique" vehicle...? If so, does Texas law require the plates to be renewed every FIVE years like regular issue state antique plates..? or just annually..? I thought I had read somewhere that "model year plates" could be renewed annually rather than every five years, but I cannot find it in print and persons at local tax office were not of much help. I think I am the first person they ever delt with wanting to use "model year correct" plates.... Appreciate the input and help... RR Wharton, Texas http://www.Nova-SS.com ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I'm not 100 percent sure but i think when you register a car as a cl***ic you register every year, but if you register as antique you do it every 5 years...
there's a guy in carrolton that sells on ebay. My sister bought a set for her '62 and they are very very nice unissued plates and were a good price
I'm running one of Gerald Thiele's tags on my 51 Panhead. His shop is about 2 blocks from mine. I have to renew the plate yearly. Larry T
Jesse is a good guy to buy from Try Greald Thiele in Vernon, Tx. He does an outstanding restore job. 940-552-2038 Home. He will be at Pate also. Year of model antique license your supposed to be using for club type junctions and driving in parades and such. To and from shows. Year of model cl***ic you are not so limited. We don't have to go to DMV now the tax office does them. The ladies in Mansfield Tx. are great to make the change easy. If you can find one a year of model Dealer requires only one plate.
yeah antique registration (which includes the plate) 5 years. cl***ic every year. TP- You can legally only run one "YOM" now anyway, but you still need both to go get them registered. So you still lucked out with a rare dealer plate. i admired it in Austin.
Pair of 1953 TEXAS License Plates Very Good Condition http://cgi.ebay.com/Pair-of-1953-TE...ryZ14040QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem Hope This Helps
Appreciate all the response. Wish the "cl***ic" registration did not require the annual State Inspection....Looks like "antique" is the way to go.... Thanks, RR ~~~~~
