Hey fellas, I've made my own rim design. I know that having a company make my rims would be extremely expensive. I've heard of possibly just buying some steel "hoop" rims and welding my own design onto the rim with the center 5 hole. Please shed some light on how to make my own rims, hoop sellers or any info is greatly appreciated!!! Thanks in Advance!

There have been threads in the past for how to swap out the centers of some rims. I think there was an article on www.fordmuscle.com some time back. Other than that, try searching Google "HAMB wheel center". (HAMB search doesn't work that great)

thanks for the feed back guys!! Right now i'm just trying to get as much info as i can to make my choices. I'm thinking steel but not necessarily which ever works best, I'm sure each have their pros and cons, Is there one that works better than the other? "Size"-17 to 20 by 8" or 10". "Center"-still brainstorming-first thought was to use the center from other rims then modify them to attach my design. I really appreciate all your comments guys...thanks!!

I don't mean to hijack this post but I've allways wondered about wheel centers. I'm thinking a flat center just isn't strong enough. I don't think it would take the sideways force a regular wheel does.

Am I right in thinking this?

I also wondered about cutting a wheel center down to fit an outer rim. Could you cut a large center down to fit a different outter?

Hey Clark, no thats cool, you aren't hi jacking this post, your comments are welcomed!

I agree on the flat center not being strong enough. I was thinking (brainstroming) of using the center of a Crager rim or some other kind of rim.

I believe you can cut down a large wheel center to fit the outer of another rim. In my google research for rim ***brication i found several shops thru out the U.S. than do this kind of work, especially for Hondas, preludes etc that are being fixed up for Euro Style, also for racing cars etc.

Do you have a picture of your truck I can check out?
    THanks!! Bad4587

What happened to your own design for the center ?

Why is using a production Crager center
going to look different than a production Crager wheel ?

MRT sell hoops in different sizes.

Years ago, we use to build/repair our own wheels for our oval track cars, using centers just like those pictured below. The wide 5 centers were just flat plate, but they were less stressed than the smaller patterens. The smaller bolt pattern centers had a slight break on the ears that stiffened them up. And yes, you can cut down a large center (within reason) to fit a different size shell, if you have a lathe with large enough swing. A brake lathe might work also (?).

Unkl Ian, the crager center was just an idea/option to use and modify to accept my wheel design. If i do use it, it won't look like a crager. I think I just need to buy a hoop and start experimenting in making a mock up wheel. I see a long road ahead of me!!

Thanks all you guys for the feedback, hope your having a nice Sunday and drinken some nice cold Beers!!!
