Who can anybody recommend for upholstry work here in Michigan for a driver-quality job? I don't need a $5k magazine-quality seat cover job.

I have the seats out of the car to make it easier....

    Thanks

Ive seen that place but i thought they just built and did body work there. I do know there was a place around there that just did upholstry but i also heard they were pretty expensive. My other option is EZ Boy's . They make or will make a cover for my seat and you can buy the rest of the material from them to finish the car. Im thinking going that wa too.

Don Boak in St. Johns was mentioned previously. He's a car guy, does good work and will work with you. He usually has a waiting list this time of year, so if interested you should talk with him soon. Here's a picture of his work on my Model A.

There is one in Mt.Morris called the Mad Pleater. I think his name is Gary Benway. I've seen some of his work, very nice.

Check out a place called Willy's Workshop in Port Huron. The man that runs the place is Scott Peart. He's pretty good, detail oriented, and has been doing customs for years.

I haven't talked to him in years, but I used to work with guy in the restoration business. He has a very good reputation.

What Lehr said, plus the fact the last time I was in Gary shop he said he was retired and not going to do any more interiors after he finished Roadstar's 40......unless he really, really, really, really liked you or your car.:D

One more " VERY" for Benway. He has some at***ude issues. Move on , nothing to see here. Lehr, sounds like you've had some experience.

Benway's upholstery is the best, if you can get past the at***ude. This guy is a MASTER of his craft. I've been to his shop and the walls are covered with mag articles featuring decades of his work. I guess I would call him a quirky artist type.

Benways upholstery is no where near the best, not even close. Yes he does nice driver quality. I have seen LOTS better. Perhaps "back in the day" he was one of the best in the area but.......

This wouldn't have anything to do with your experience with that little shop down Austin, Texas way would it?:cool::D They say that "once you've had the best you can never go back". I've heard that said about *** to, any experience along that line?:)

Not really Frank. I was comparing a recent Benway competed interior with other "driver quality" interiors I have seen completed lately. The orginal poster is looking for driver quality in a certain price range. Fat Lucky is not the interior person for him. Benway is driver quality in that price range BUT he is no where near the best as was stated and I don't want the original poster to think he was. Of course all this is my opinion.;)

For about 5 years time I was really paying attention to interiors, taking lots of photos and mental notes and have seen ALOT of **** interiors. An interior, just like other high visability parts on a car can make or break the look of said car. My opinion on the matter was, and still is, save alittle longer and have something that I'm proud of.

The guy right on M-60 (can't remember his name..damn!) does a lot of work on high end cl***ics (think Pebble Beach)......and I don't know if they do anything other than originals...probably a little out of our price ranges anyway.
