Hi guys. I am about to start making my tie rod and parallel drag link for my 53 binder pickup. I have adapted 77 ford f100 spindles that run the 7 degree stock taper tie rod ends. I am using a cross steer power box out of 77 f100. I have to make my own steering setup I can not use the steering arms from the donor f100. My taper is 7 degrees with a 9/16-18 thread on top. The taper is about 1 inch long with the small end measuring .610 (a little smaller than 5/8) and the large end measuring .735 (a little smaller than 3/4). I believe that a common tierod end is the 7 degree taper with an 11/16th thread on the tie rod shaft. I need tie rod ends with the size taper I have stated above, AND that smaller 11/16th shaft thread size. The only ones I can find are 7/8-20. My question is where do I find tie rod ends for my application? Are the 11/16 tie rod ends commonly being used the same 7 degree taper And the same 9/16-18 thread on top while using the same diameters (small end .610 and large end .735) as mine? If I need to order tubing the smaller the better $$$ AND the taps for the job will be easier to find. But maybe Im wrong. Please set me straight.... Thanks in Advance Dan
here is something that might help you hit the pirate 4x4 site or any number of sites that deal with offroad vehicles as anything with a solid front axle deals with these type of issues. if your stuff is custom made that gives you lots of flex in what tie rods you can use. post some pic's of what you are doing as that would help to see what issues you might run into with current design.
This is pretty much the design I am going for, these pics are of Paul's coupe from the tech archives: My ideal find would be a tierod end with the angle/diameter that I need and that 11/16 threaded shank. I say this because the 11/16 shank size taps and tubing size are easy to find. Tie rod end part# anyone? any help is appreciated Dan
