shoeboxes have been covered ALOT on doing chops, and how people went about doing them. The search will help you alot when looking for information
If your interested in doing it in hardtop version, refer to Rod and Custom mag I believe last year. They did about a 5 or 6 issue chop on one just like yours. I'll try to look up what month it started. Remember PLAN!!! PLAN!!! PLAN!!!
Here's a link to the R&C article. http://www.rodandcustommagazine.com/techarticles/0604rc_hardtop_conversion/index.html It has some good info and stuff, but it's not a step by step how to.
I am looking to chop my 49 as well. I didn't have photo shop so i printed up some pics with my chop hight on the car then cut up the pics and taped them back together. If i cant post a now check out our website slackerscc.com and look at club photos of my 49 befor then check out our project cars to see the mocked up chop.
Check this link out too.It Gave me a good start in the right direction on what I wanted for my first chop...........http://www.kingkustomstemecula.com/wst_page3.php
Hey...look again at the yard his car is sitting in. Appears to me that's who he bought the car from! Just have Rob do it if you have the coin and want it to be KILLER. Or if you want to learn, honestly, the person you got it from knows about all there is to chopping one of them. Serious.
Pick up a copy of Tex Smiths "How to chop tops". It isn't perfect but it does give some good pointers and it may help you keep from making big mistakes. You can find it at Borders and on Amazon a**** other places. I'm with the guys who say don't overdo the chop so that it looks squished. I've seen too many lately that look like they were done with no forethought about how it actually will look or being able to drive the car for any distance without ending up comfortably. The one shown in the book I mentioned above is actually chopped a bit more than I would like if it were mine but he shows some good ideas.
Holy Rusted metal! Your right! Its small world after all. Have Rob do it if you got the coin. Man his work is unbelievable.
i guess its a small world yea thats rob's house in temecula.honestly i already tried asking him but hes to busy with other projects, school, and girls. i would love to have him do it but i rather learn how for my self...........thats just me.
Check out his site and how he measured everything and what cuts he made. Get yourself a sawzall, a welder, some sheetmetal, and alot of time and calm. Research as much as you can, measure not twice but like 5 times or more. and cut away. Remember its metal, you can always add more...well..most of the time.
Just do a search for shoebox threads. Finding a chopped shoebox on this site is shooting fish in a barrel. Or whatever that old saying is about easy stuff.
