anybody around San Jose want to take an autobody class?

i'm currently taking a night class at CCOC (central county occupational center) for autobody,and the teacher was saying how frustrating it was for people to be dropping out of the class all the time.
i mentioned that there are a lot of people who would like to learn some serious metal shaping,and don't mind paying for it.
he said he might look into requesting some equipment,like an english wheel,shrinker/stretcher,planishing hammer etc. (in addition to all the stuff they have already,including a frame table and 3 paint booths) if the demand is there.
so what i'm asking is that you show up for the hot rod & muscle carshow they're having May 16th.
and tell him,yes,this class would be a good idea.
the class i'm taking cost $150 and is 3 hours one night a week,something like 54 hours total.
i think the metalshaping class would probably cost about the same.
this is a great resource IMHO and i think we should take advantage of it.

just being able to use the shop is worth the money,there's some guy that has been working on a mullet-mobile mustang on a rotisserie for i don't know how long

Ive actually had a lot of trouble getting into classes at ccoc. I tried getting into the introductory welding class but couldnt because the class was full even before registration opened! They said it was virtually impossible to get into the class unless you were already in the system. If people really do drop out as much as you say they do, then it is a shame that people like me that really want to take the class arent able to.

Hopefully, I wont run into this problem with the metal shaping class.

 

I might be into it George, depending on time, etc. since I would need to get back and forth from Berkeley. But, once a week is probably doable. If it was 2-3 times a week, I probably wouldn't be able to. Regardless, I would love to learn some metal working skills. Just hard to make the time working so much.

The exact schedule is critical for me, but I'd LOVE to get into a class like this....

If he/you/anyone knows the exact schedule, and the procedure for getting enrolled - if I can make it work, I'm there!

Wow, I wish I could do that -- $150 is cheap. I was looking t taking some basic welding here in the Twin Cities to brush up my skills with the new MIG, but they are getting $300-400. I would love the opportunity to learn some real metal shaping also!

I'm in the same boat as the others: I'd do it depending on scheduling.

Is that the place behind the the auto dealerships on Capital Expressway? I took the beginning welding class there in the late 70's. I'd be interested.

I wish to hell they'd had this when I took auto body at school. We learned collision repair, which is not the same thing as metal finishing - you supplied a fender, he put a little dent in it, you hammered it back out so far and used plastic to finish the rest and painted it. Meanwhile I wanted to learn about chopping tops and making filler panels and so on.

I'd sign up but it's kinda on the wrong coast for me.
