Here is your answer: Paint the door, have it striped in whatever decal/logo you would like. Set the door outside, uncovered for no less than 20 years. Just like a fine wine, the longer the better.

Yep, and if you'd started on it when this topic came up the first time, you'd be done right about now. Stop procrastinating.

(well, it seems like its been 20 years:rolleyes:)

Dude - remove your foot from your mouth. Keep it shut for a bit, READ - STUDY - LEARN - and you might just get to call it a 'Hot-Rod'. Screw the fake patina ****. That's for the 'goldchainers'.

I used a gray Scotch-Brite pad to 'fake' the 'patina' on my 'rat' theme truck......

  21. Somebody please close this post before it gets too stupid...

Shades, you got off to a bad start either because you haven't lurked in here long enough to understand that this is a group of traditional hot rodders (I just can't see Barney Navarro "faking" the "patina" on a car), or you are happy to take an argument as far as it can go, even when you are losing.

Whether ignorance or arrogance, both have the same outcome- failure.

take it like a man and move on.

You got the answer, "fake" patina doesn't cut it here. Real Patina such as a truck cab that had signs painted on it when new and they have faded over the past 60 or so years would be considered ok.
Take some time to read the threads and look at the cars that the guys (and gals) on the board are building for themselves. You will see that the vast majority of the cars follow the them of honoring the past in that the pieces on the car are authentic old time hotrod parts. They are timeless cars that don't show the trick of the week or use the latest part advertised and featured in the latest car rag off the stands just because it is the newest latest gotta have it part to impress other "gold chainers".

    Fake, fake, fake....

strike two..... you have no idea where you are....

the problem is that there is this "make it look as ****ty as I can, and make it unsafe as well" at***ude/mnetality attached to the "Rat" scene.

School! you should've stayed in school.

    ahhh... falling for it....

    strike three.... you're a *****...

    Amen....

    Lets start here:

I'm 39 yrs. old, new to anything older than 71 and would really like to build an old rod because of all the custom work that goes into it.

I didn't "know" that there was a dumb question and I was curious... I'm not a ***** or a **** but I can only take so much until I start dishing back. Sorry that I started off wrong and I AM in the learning stages of my build so I guess I've learne to think twice before I ask.
