Jesus Christ, cut the guy a break. He asked a legitimate question and you guys are bashing the hell out of him. Alot of us "patina" our cars or even parts for the old school look.
Sorry to flame here, but for the knucklehead who thinks intercoolers don't help turbochargers, well you are just plain wrong.

  3. Nice adjustment.

When someone comes on with very few posts and starts talking rat rods, spelling school skool, etc., we ***ume they are either trolls or just came through the wrong door. I'm beginning to think there is hope for you, and you will steer your build in the right direction. If it is the rat rod culture you want, head on over to www.killbillet.com or www.ratrodsrule.com.

What I want is a truck that resembles member "Ratstu's" truck...... That thing is Beautiful!
I own an auto gl*** business and plan on making it my "delivery" truck with my business logo painted on the side....But I want it to look like its been painted for years and years and THAT is why I asked the original question.

Ok, in all seriousness. Try using the "search" function for the words "fake patina" or "faux patina". You'll find all the answers on how to do it. You'll also find that a lot of guys have been hazed a lot worse than you for asking that question.

The search function is your friend.

I just bought an old truck that had old lettering on it already, and I left it that way... Simple enough...:D I was an old utilities truck from northern WI

Hence it says, Glenbula Utilities on the side... Nowit says it pretty clearly on one side but not onthe other... If I was to get the side that you can't read the lettering on repainted then sand on it to make it look old does that mean I'm a chainer? probably not because it was originally there. But I am sure it depends on who you ask I am sure...

^Ha^ a gold chainer, I know a few of them, but they are into bikes. So then, you guys are quite right, the patina gangs are already starting to show up at the goodguys shows. I first saw this when I visited the so-cal speed shop about 5 years ago, they were working on what looked like a race hand built in the 40's but the whole thing was new sheet. They even bashed a few holes in it before charging the guy 70 grand

If I'm not mistaken, a fellow HAMBer made a tech post about faking patina on old signage. I think the reason it flew was because he had one door with the original logo all scuffed and faded and wanted his new(er) door to have the same look.
Try searching in the tech archives.

Otherwise, I think OSR did a "tech" article a few issues back. Christ, did I just admit that I flipped through that magazine? Oh man.

I wonder, though, if my car will be a "loser" in a while, even though it is legit as ****. Man, I don't want that to happen. I think I am starting to understand the reluctance built into this group, your all just trying to save the game from being lame.

What do you guys think is better, OSR or garage. Of course the journal reigns supreme, but garage sure is pretty. Oh, wait that is really off topic sorry, nevermind. Anyway, a ton of magazines have done write ups on it becuase it is a **** load of popular. I'm not sure why though. These guys with huge budgets shouldn't build **** like this. They can build Starbird level cars, and if they want to "go back" they should do that. But maybe I'm part of the problem. I can't help it that I like to work on my own car and do it for cheap, it just so happens that the car I built fits into the "rat rod/vintage/rough rod/whatever you wanna call it" catagory.
