Just what I needed. I tried to resist.
    I don't need a project. I'm out of space.
    I already have a truck.

But this one insisted I take it home. I offered to help find a buyer but the guy selling it wouldn't let me say no.

A 1960 F-100. Custom Cab with the big rear window. 63 Mercury 390 with an new Holley carb. 4-speed, an Arizona truck with only the slightest rust. 90,000 miles. It had no wheels at all. It was sitting on the floor of the guy's garage. Found a set of E-150 van steelies and tires for $25 on Craig's list.

The odd thing is that the shortbed was shortened another 8-10 inches. I can't decide if I like it or it's just plain wierd.

    I paid $1000.
    Whaddya think?

Cool! Fellow '60 owner here, daily driver. I love these trucks.

That said, that bed looks pretty weird. The stock proportions of the short bed were pretty much dead on, even if the shape was a little plain. Do you have any idea why the P.O. did it?

Yep, I love the Mooneyes truck ... that was part of the inspiration to lower mine. I wish I could get mine that low.

That's how mine sits ... de-arched front leaves & flipped rear.

Cool truck, drove one identical to it when I was doing maintanence work in high school. Brings back a lot of memories.

Funny story...My boss was trying to fix the transmission in the truck and getting really pissed off. He radio'd me to drive the front end loader up to the yard. When i get up there, He tells me to hook the bucket on the rocker and flip the damn truck on it's side so he can work on the ******! He finished up the ****** with the truck on it's side. When he was done, we pushed the truck back it's wheels. Broke the side mirror, didn't even dent the truck! Built Ford Tough.

Have fun with your truck, I love those effies.

With the super short bed, it kind of reminds me of one of those half-cab Bronco pick-ups.

  7. Groovy. That's a candidate for a rear-half Econoline bed.

  8. nice score, wierd bed setup though.

Just parted my 60 effie out a couple of weeks ago. I know it was junk, but still feel bad about it. That bed looks pretty goofy. Check out the Ford Truck Enthusiasts site, they have a ton of info for you. You can find a replacement bed for it on the site too. Good luck, I would have jumped on that too.

Jesus man, you don't find runners like that in Ohio for 1k.

The short bed looks kinda funny, but once it's a little lower and chopped it probably won't be as noticeable.

    The guy was asking $2500. I p***ed.
He called the next day and asked for an offer.
I told him I wasn't trying to get it for less, I just didn't want it.

I suggested he list it here, or Craigslist. He asked what I would pay for it. I repeated that $2500 wasn't unreasonable, but just not for me.

He asked if i'd give him $1000 and it sounded like he was crying.
I said sure, he said it had to be out by Thursday, because that's when the bank was having the sheriff come to lock him out of his foreclosed house.

I kind of feel bad, but if not for me, it would have likely been s****ped. At least I bought him lunch while I was waiting for the tow truck.

Damn... that ****s for him though.

The bed looks bob-tailed. It is factory, or is there evidence it isn't?

He got it from someone who bought it in 1960.
He didn't know the story but it was "some guy into race cars" who owned it and bobbed the bed. It looks like it was done LONG ago.
    It's actually pretty well done.

  15. I love me some old effies. Maybe keep the shortened bed look but add a stepside bed? Or maybe make it look like an old timey tow rig/pit truck...

Drive it until you find another bed, then drive it some more.

I wish I hadn't gotten rid of my '60 F100. I loved that truck but now I have a '54. This one's staying with me for a while.

Your new toy is awesome except that bed. It's not weird, it's just plain ol' UGLY! haha Swap that thing out.

Okay- Trucks go up as well as down right?

The straight axle front end and stubby look got me thinking -- G***er!

Drop the back an inch or two and raise the front the same amount. Maybe some 8.20-15 WWW cheater slicks on black steel wheels on the back and some skinny black 6.00-15 front runners on Radirs or Cragars.

My first idea was something low and cool, but the odd altered stance and straight axle might work well especially since it has a 390 and 4-speed.

Dress the engine up as a 427 and get some fenderwell headers, ditch the front bumper and I might make lemonade out of this lemon.

A lot of people have painted themselves into a corner and are really hurting now.

He seemed to "get it" He said he only blames himself, isn't mad at the bank, but doesn't know what he was thinking getting a $0 down, interest only ARM. "I should have just gotten a regular 30 year mortgage but I got greedy" he said.

I didn't try to steal the truck, I really tried to get out of buying it and help him sell it to someone else.
He seemed very grateful for my $1000.

Today he's getting locked out of his former house and it would be on it's way to a junkyard or left behind sitting on the garage floor with no wheels, for someone else to s****.

Keep the shorty bed. It's different. Plus, it's paid for.

  28. I would have paid that in a second for that. Keep us posted on the build. ElPalacko here on the hamb specializes in those trucks and can help you. He is local in Phoenix.

It was on Craigslist for a month.
    Deals are out there.

Just like with houses, a lot of people are asking what they hope or wish for, but will take whatever you offer.

I recently bought a nice 1974 Volkswagen Thing that was "$8500 firm" for $5000.

That ****s. I hate to hear these kind of stories, but the way housing prices kept going up and up something had to give. I hope the guy lands on his feet. You have to figure $1000 is way better than just loosing the truck out right.
