I am wondering if I should go with the Jamco front end conversion with drop spindles or a mustang 2 front end. I plan on changing the 216 to a 235. So I dont need mounts for a SBC. What would you guys recommend. What about the rear also, just loweriong blocks or new Posie rear leafs Forgot to add this is a car not a truck..

Pretty sure the 6 Cyl will not work with the Mustang front end...

why wouldnt a 6cyl work with a mustang II front end? i know 1959 235 has the same motor mounts as a v-8...235s dont have to be cradle mounted

I am building another 51 and want to use a Mustang front end and a 235 I have. I was told it would not work by TCI.....thats why I have not bought it yet!!

  5. The stock 'Knee-Action' frontend (rebuilt) with the Jamco or Fatman Fabrications pieces will provide a very good ride, plus no cutting/welding needed.
    Just my two pennies worth.

That is not the real "Knee Action" that was only on 35-6 to 40 or so. Talk about a pain in ***!! The 49-54 car front was basicaly the same as Vettes used to 63. They were not to bad just needed lots of regular greasing. The Bell Crank pivot was the biggest trouble area. Back in the day there were all sorts of aftermarket patch parts for that area that just bolted on.

  8. Your right on JohnEvans , not the real 'knee-action'. I will also agree that it does need frequent greasing and I do have a NOS bell crank pivot "slack remover" (not sure of correct name) if it gets any wear.
I still like it even with the extra servicing though.

51 engine mounts bolt to the crossmember, when you take it out there is nothing to mount the motor to. But, i'm pretty sure 52 they changed to side mounts so you might be OK.

The reason they say it doesn't work is because they don't offer a way to mount the motor. A friend of mine just did a MII on his '52. He has a '56 235 in it. Since the 55-57 blocks don't have 3 bolt sidemounts like the 58-62 engines have, the mounts were changed to the 49-51 style under the front motor plate. When switching to the MII, he had new mounts made that utilized the front corner mounts of the '56 block, and tied into the frame rails. He did this before the original suspension was removed. That way no extra supporting was needed for the engine while making the mounts.

if you can install a must11 you can build mounts for your engine.
