    Hi

    Looking for bit of advice...

'46-'48 front brake backplates , was looking for brake cylinders approx 7/8 "diameter that will fit & work with shoes also... (rear '48 ford are 1 1/8 " afaik ) any ideas ?

    Another possibility...

Have been told '94 approx F250 rear cyls & 12" x 2 1/2" shoes could be adapted , would these fit inside '48 drums ?

    Thanks for any input......

  2. These cylinders are available from Mac's, Vintage Ford and others. I don't think you'll stop well with 7/8 front wheel cyl's., standard are 1-3/8-1" with the larger bore facing foward to push the longer lining.

  3. Yeah, buy the right wheel cylinders!

on a vw dont want to upset front/rear balance ,also stock vw master couldnt cope with large wheel cylinder volume....hence the query !

you should not be using perfectly good Ford parts on a VW for any reason, ever!

ah a volkrodder sneaks in under the radar!

seriously, use oem wheel cyls and adapt a dual circuit Drum/drum mustang master to fit instead of the VW master. shouldnt be that hard, and it will actually stop. the VW master and smaller wheel cyls is not a good idea..early ford brakes are not self energising, so mucking with wheel cyl volumes is prettty risky..

    Thanks for input.

I actually got an 1" mustang m/c ,should be adaptable & with 1-1/8" rear fords on front & vw front on rear, I figure balance & pedal effort & travel ,end up similar to stock.

Its a speedway rebuilt m/c, wonder if it will be ok without residual pressure valves in the lines.....

If the M/C is for a drum/drum system it should have check valves in it now.
