What exactly is this?

    Can you identify this transmission on the back of this late model flathead?

    You can see it has a very long tail shaft.

    '49-'55 Ford. That's a stamped steel '49 bellhousing.

    Good, dependable trans when used in a family car, not as strong as the later T-86.

    I'm going to be building a z-frame with a 53 flathead this summer.

    how much of a drop is in the rear z?
