I bought this wierd truck. The shortbed was shortened about a foot. It's done well and looks stock at first glance, but the proportions are really odd. It has a 63 Mercury 390 and a 4-speed and the original straight axle front end. My first idea was a lowered cruiser, but rather than fight it, maybe I'll surrender to it's wierdness. Gasser. I'm thinking: Jack the front up a few inches, take a few leaves out of the rear, cheater slicks on wide black or white steel wheels, front skinnies on mag wheels, swiss-cheese front bumper, screens over the high beams. Under the hood, the 390 dressed up as a 427. (Littleman signed off on the concept so maybe I'm on to something) Any photoshoppers up to the job?
If you'll put a big ole' pipe bumper on the back it'll help add some weight visually and lengthen it back there. It'll also look right on a "gasser".
It will be tough to get that motor to stick up out of that hood cause of the height. Flat blue paint with turned out gold lettering and blue tint. Ya could yank the hood completley and naturally the wipers / mirrors / tailgate. With that bed so short a Gasser seems like a nice direction.
Its like all those toyotas my fellow classmates at highschool are driving. the whole "bobbed bed" craze
i know. I own three of these trucks. i plan on building one "gasser" style. its alot easier then lowering one ( been there done that). The one im finishing is a big back window, im running 40 ford style solids on the front and matching widened ones on the rear, it should look cool
Section 8 I would love to do one for you but I am stuck up. I think this style of truck is badass candidate for a gasser as well as low to the ground.
A HAMB'er sent me this: It does seem to make the stubby bed work. I'm not going to be chopping it, but like the idea.
Depending on how much work you want to do, I would personally center the rear wheels on the stubby bed. But then it wouldn't look bobbed, just shortened. Just my .02
