Would anyone be interested in messing with this pic? I bought this last year and am really hoping to get started on it this summer. Fishing for ideas. Thinking slight lowering and chop the top....??? It's a 1952 Desoto Sportsman hardtop. Thanks in advance for input....time_xx
Wash it,get it running good and drive it for the summer the way it is...okay maybe without the wheel covers. What needs to be done will come to you as you get a feel for the car. I can see your point about a bit lower though....
the chop that ol' "poop stain" came up with looks damn near perfect, like how it shoulda' came out the factory, flows with desoto elegance ,, skirts wouldn't hurt either
arpedersen, hehe. I love it! I kind of have odd taste, but that's cool. I think I might shoot for that. I found some skirts for a 53 Desoto, does anyone know if they will fit the 52??? How about colors?.... I really appreciate you guys taking the time on this. Thanks.
oh, man a little hammer work and anything'll fit. I like the paint, it looks classic. Someguys will tell you to paint over it. I guess it depends on who you hang out with. You could also do some hand formed ports in the hood, but that is pretty played out now. by the way, you took the perfect picture, it is so easy to edit when you do it like that.
Hey that thing is cool. All the usual tricks really wake it up. Just be sure and take the hump out of the back of the roof and you´ll be OK. It should also look good with a smaller window of you can´t figure out how to chop the current rear window down.
^that does look great, I tried to find those sombreros, but went with the shiny moons instead because it was faster. i'd shave the bumpers though. Maybe I'm too influenced by show cars?
I found a guy with a field full of cars last summer, he had one of these, and the 56 chevy I bought. Both were 4 doors, the chevy had a good engine, less rust, and a title. So I went with the chevy. But I do love these cars a lot.
Hey, After the chop, it'll need a little "lypo suction". I'd try to work in a 3''-4'' section through the quarter panel, through the door shell, and step cut cut the section to below the front fender "fade-away"- character line. This would give that Mopar a real sinister, roadster kinda look. Rear skirts are a must! Swankey Devils C.C. "Meanwhile, back aboard The Tainted Pork"
Thanks to all of you for your insight and opinions. The car definitely has some great potential. This is going to be my "baptism in body work" as I have mostly been a mechanical and wiring guy to this point. I will absolutely keep a decent photo journal as I get this thing going. time_xx
I just added the extra chrome side spear as a slightly easier way to get a similar effect. Sectioning is great and all, but sheesh - I wouldn´t like to try it on any car of mine! Not easy.
Saw this somewhere on the HAMB a while back. Saved it because I'm doing a 52 dodge. Whoever owns this car, it's wicked kool. (Sorry about posting your pic without permission, it's just so damn kool!!)
Has anyone seen the (i think thom taylor ) concept in Rod and custom of the wood sided chrysler looks kind of similar to this one that might be a cool way to go if you didnt want to loose the moore door look was in R&C within the last few months wish i had a scanner !
I meant the concept in R&C is of a 4 door but would still look awesome on this car with the wood anyone know the one I mean ?
Well, I know that woodies are rare, expensive, and awesome for a reason, so in that sense, yes, I know exactly what you mean.
That's unusual. I don't think I like it better in wood than metal. I can honestly say that wagons look cooler with wood, but that, eh, maybe.
Chore mang, To "section" a vehicle, be it a panel or a number of panels, on a vehicle ,is to remove a horziontal piece, a "section "from the panel/s. This will change the heigth, and the general lines of a vehicle. Done well, it can really change a vehicle's look or "flow''. Done poorly, and without a good bit of work to the other lines of the vehicle, can give the look of a pig with lipstick on, it fools or offends most who view it. Swankey Devils C.C.
