I got a good deal on some 1/4" lexan panels left over from a construction project(yes I paid for them). It's the same thinkness as the rear and side windows in the A so I'm thinking, why not use them in the A. The old gl*** has got to go for reasons we all know. Does anyone here know of any reason I shouldn't or can't use the lexan. This stuff is pretty tough, you can bang on it and won't bunge. What do ya think?
Yep, lexan, or polycarbonate, is terrible for UV. You want hardcoated polyester or acrylic, long term.
I used lexan as a windshield in my 54 customline for about two years. After some shaping and metal screws it fit great. I noticed it dident scratch as easily as I thought it might also. I did however find out it was illegal to use as a windshield, but served its purpose until I was able to shape a gl*** windshield..... come to think of it I now use it for the rear window...
Ditto that, I have Lexan windows in my truck and they the have fogged up over time so that they aren't usable now. It stands up well to bb guns though. There are big discussions on it on the sailboat forums I am on and the general consensus is that while it is tough and durable it scratches easily and does get cloudy after a while.
