You will be able to drive your truck on the course ONCE right after the drivers meeting, Monday this year. That black line is the course that the race cars take. They will let you travel just about as fast as you want to go from the start to about the 6 mile mark. Then it's off the course and the real racing begins. I'm doing about 80 in this photo and Megan is pacing me in the roadster.

You can't be on the "salt" at night, not just the course but you can't be in the pitts or the start line or anywhere.

The "Bend in the road" is where the free camping is.

You really should do a seach here. There are hundreds of posts that will give you a good feel of the event if you just type in Speed Week or B'ville.

    I'm planning on being there,

I went 2 years ago after talking to Tim Boyle (MADCAD on the HAMB) and went back last year too .

well after many many years of dreaming im going,............................what next should i try to run my truck ?

Where's Tremont? If you blow it up, how are you going to get home?

or just watch this might be the first and last time i go,

I'll bet you'll want to go again.

i dont know how well my truck would do 6cyl 4:11 rear shakes above 65 lol let me know what you think

Bad U joints? Bad shocks? Wheels out of balance?

btw is their any place that i could get a good pick of my truck on the salt ?

    YES!

    What MR48Chev said:
"I''ll say this, It isn't a good place to take high maintenance significant others. If they get bored at a rod run or show they are going to get very bored at Bonneville. I guess you could leave them at the motel or casino."

If you have any questions PM me, I'll give you a list I made to remind myself what to bring next year.

    see you there,

    Dan

NO, it's just a free for all from the start line directly after the drivers meeting.

No matter where you stop to take a photo of your truck on the salt it will turn out good. There are no bad shots on the Salt.

If you plan on running it, don't forget to plunk down your $400 entry fee. It's best to be a spectator & get sun burnt & have fun.Denise knows how to do that, just look at her.

The camp spot is about 10 min out of wendover prior to the entrance to the flats. The best food is at the mexican spot at the truck stop outside of the flats....

Wanted to mention to you since it seems you're new in the hot rod internet forums, that when you cut and paste a question from one board onto another board, that the smilies are a dead giveaway where else you hang out.

Pretty cool when you can come on here and have the same question you asked 12 hours prior on another board with absolutely no responses, and have it answered here in a very short time with more info then you actually asked for.;)

A couple of things from this post.

First, the suggestion to log on to www.landracing.com will not work. That site is now down and for sale. Too bad, it was a valuable resource for all things Bonneville.

Second, the days of run-what-ya-brung are over. We tech all vehicles as race cars/bikes. You MUST meet all specs for your cl*** regardless of the potential speed of your truck. As mentioned the costs of a roll cage, fire systems, driver's gear and tires will kill you if you are only to go one time. There is no driving a race vechile on the return road return to the pits so a second car/truck will be required. Take Rich's suggestion, contact www.saltflats.com and check out the 130 mph club. Much more user friendly and it is the same piece of ground. Race runs in mid-Sept.

The photo of Denise is during the course check following the initial driver's meeting. No time slip. While she is doing 80 mph that will probably be as fast as anyone could go without sanctions. It is a land rush after the meeting, maybe 100 vehicles on the course at the same time. Any antics(if you are caught) will bring the wrath of the officials and fellow racers(you do not want that) down on you.

If you think you will be there once, go in August camp at the bend in the road, drink a few beers and soak in the magic that is Bonneville.

    Tyler,

Dan has some good advice. Drive your truck to Bonneville, hang out and meet everybody. Get instantly addicted to the Salt, go home and spend the next couple years building a race car, and come back ready to ***ault.
If you spend a ton of money now on making your truck race ready, you'll run that brick once, and then wish you had something more streamlined. LOL.
    See ya out there.

Once you go you'll be addicted.this is one of the last places that someone can build a racer and there should be a cl*** for it.You don't have to be rich just determined.Bend in the road is the place to camp.Take a tent and save the hotel fee.+1 on the sunscreen. My legs will never be the same.

Tyler - Hope you can appreciate just who these guys are that are taking time to advise you here. These are the real deals. You're a very lucky guy - took me decades before these types would give me the time of day. The HAMB is a wonderful thing. Hope to see you on the salt...

Not to be the pot calling the kettle black, but yes you are. . .Trust me. :)

It'll be my second time on the salt, but the first for speedweek. I stopped by the end of the road on the way home from Cali couple years ago. One of the most beautiful places I've ever seen. Have a water bottle full of salt sitting next to me. I know, I know, that may be wrong, but I didnt know what else to do, I was in heaven.

"This is the place where big things happen. . . . . . I'm telling you Rusty, this place is holy ground mate. And I made it."

  27. Wow, that's quite a story.

I might make it to Bonneville for the first time this year. I've been to El Mirage quite a few times and should make it out there several times this upcoming season.

    Thanks,
    Kurt

Cad La Dave says "I pit for a V4F Model t, p***ing tech is a ***** and operates on a "who you know" system." Cad La Dave; If a car goes through inspection quicker after the same inspector has looked at it three times already at El Mirage, that's not "Old boy system" That's keeping the line moving. Also it's worth pointing out everyone is welcome at Bonneville. It's your land. But Land Speed Racing is not much of a spectator sport. I like seeing the cars and hearing them run. Still if your going to be there, after the first few times it seems to me that it would make more sense to run a car. I have never seen an International powered race car. Might be neat.

I'm just sick enough to agree with that (I used to have a '48 1/2 ton). Bring it on, Tyler!
And BTW, we never had any trouble with SCTA tech...
