Need a new exhaust system for the buick, why I am at it, what is the best setup for a good sound? Keep with muffler and tailpipe like I have and just sounds stock, want to get it a little throatier. What is everyone else doing?
split exhaust with 1 3/4'' pipe running all the way to 2 smitty steelpack mufflers. That should give a good rap sound but if you want a throatier sound deeper then 2.5'' pipe going to a flowmaster. If it was me I would go with the first.
Dynaflush or standard trans ? They each need different sizes/types pipe & mufflers to sound right. A '41-'42 compound carb setup is worth finding for factory dual exhaust & carbs.
The compound setup for duals sounds good, haven't seen one, going to be tough to find? Have any pics? Oh yeah, it is the Dynaflow....good runner though 55K mile car, was taken care of.
I just picked up a 52` special w/ the straight 8 and 3 on the tree .....27,000 original 1 owner miles .... I split the pipe right after the manifold and ran 2" tubbing back to smitties and rear exit tail pipes ...........
The larger diameter pipe the lower the frequency of the sound . When I changed the last ten inches of the exhaust on my 467cid Poncho motor over to 4" the sound completely changed with no other modifications . It sounds WAY better now . I was actually doing it for looks as the standard exhaust appeared so pathetic with the big motor .I was very pleasantly surprised when I fired that puppy up leaving the muffler shop . Way cool .
Make those Buick portholes real exhaust outlets. A big exhaust stain down the side of the car ,cool huh?
right now saturday 4/19 there is a complete compound set up on ebay carbs intake an 2 exhaust manifolds auction number #380017540172 auction had about a day an a half to go , i didnt look at the price ,
