Hi. Not sure if this is OT (not strictly Hot Rod), but you guys seem to be some of the most knowledgeable about and so wondered if any of you could point me in the direction of Caddys in the early years of Nascar (and Cadillacs racing in that era generally -- I'm talking late forties/early fifties). There's loads of info about Briggs Cunningham's antics, and a fair bit about the Carrera Panamericanaa, but not finding out much about track racing (several Caddys raced in the 1950 Nascar season, including at least one sedanette/fastback). Any ideas? Cheers Chris
Greetings... Cadillacs ran and placed in the early 50's. I am pretty sure the factory wasnt very involved, if at all... Although they did help out with the Lemans program some. I have seen many 1948-53 cads running but only one 1955 Cadillac in a NASCAR race. They got pretty big after 1954 and I think most who ran with a caddy before dropped them post-1953 model because of bulk & weight and by then Cadillac didnt hold as much of a lead in horsepower. Makes sense that post-53 wouldn't be compe***ive. Any good sources you can recommend? Books, websites, magazine articles, or do I need to contact Nascar and try to get access to their archive? Cheers Chris
