I have a 318 from a 67 Satellite. I'm going to be using the engine with a 3 spd. manual in my 29 Es*** coupe. I would like to do a cam upgrade but am unsure what to go with. I will be using an AVS 4 bbl. I'm not looking at doing any work to the heads. I just want to wake it up a little bit and give it just a little lope. Nothing big but noticeable. The car is going to be setup as a driver. Wondering what other people have used with good results? I've been doing some research of my own but would like to get some other opinions. Thanks for the help. Erick

For noticable performance improvement look at the 360-4bbl cam or next step is the 68-69 340 4-spd cam. You will notice this profile. Also check the Crower catalogue, they have several really good profiles that should work for you. PM if you want more help.

Really consider using a set of 308 heads off the 89-92 pre magnum 360 found in dodge pickups. These heads already have hardened seats and are up there with X or J heads as far as flow. Using a set, especially in conjunction with the 340 4 barrel cam or something similar, should go a long way toward waking up that 318.

If you need an intake and can find one for anything reasonable, go for a LD 340 Edelbrock.

Try to find an 833 overdrive 4 speed to use with 3.23 or 3.55 rear end gears, too.

this cam is supposed to be a mild, but noticeable upgrade.

I'd ***ume it's an LA motor. Although it's true that for a few weeks into p***enger car production for the 1967 model year, and in several 1967 model year trucks the good 'ol 318 Poly was used, as a rule of thumb the LA 318 was the most predominant 318 used that year (probably by like 95% for 318-equipped p***enger cars, and 10% of 318-equipped trucks).

Odds are it's an LA motor.

268 high energy comp hyd....or the 340 cam mentioned....i used the cam out of a little red express in a 273 , which was supposed to be a copy of the 340 hyd.... nice and peppy....and really brought that little 273 to life compared to the previous one.... (read this as the big cam syndrome ....the previous cam was a big solid...in the 500+ range with 300+ duration...hey ya have to try it aleast once.... nothing but broken valve springs and bad *** lopin' idle...:D) brandon:D

Thanks for all the great input. The engine is an LA, not the poly. A lot of the research I did is right along the same lines as what everyone has said. I appreciate the help from everyone. I didn't want to jump in and buy something that wasn't going to be what I wanted. Thanks again. Erick

I'd pick up a Mopar performance catalog. They used to have some pretty nice cams (some of those mentioned above) for a fair price. You can get their performance catalog at the dealers who are Performance dealers for 5.00

Scroll down to the bottom of this page. Pretty much what twofosho said about the heads. http://mopar.com/muscle/tech1005.htm
