i don't think this thread is gonna get very long. there just isn't many out there, that i've seen anyway. but here's another one of that car.
Here is a few pics of Howard of the AZ. Rattlers car club's 49 Olds, and its his daily driver too. Also a couple of pics of my 49 Chevy with a 455 Olds motor.
Thank you !!!!!!!!!!!! I love Oldsmobiles. I love gassers. When you put the two together, I almost touch myself.
I met Howard and his Olds at Vegas last year, one seriously cool guy with an awesome car. It's definately one of my favorites, and I'm a Ford guy. With examples like these out there, I'm suprised there aren't more 49-57 Olds drag cars in the works. In my opinion, they blow the Chevies away in style, and their early 371's and 394's are pretty impressive once they're built up. Dave(49 Olds on here) from the Spinners has a 49 coupe that is also quite drool-worthy, maybe he'll see this post and addd some pics of his as well.
Their were some serious Olds guys in San Diego area a few years ago. Raced with them at Carlsbad Raceway. They had some fast Old's.
I've never seen a right hand drive Olds. Did the factory build it that way or does Oz require retro-conversions?
In the late '70s in Md. I remember two. The "Duquenes Drag Team" and one sponsored by an asphalt co. "F.O. Day". Got no pics, sorry.
ok, here is the grandad of all olds gassers. Gene Adams' '50 olds fastback. it was Little Eliminator winner in B/Gas at the 1957 Nationals in Oklahoma City.
Yes G.M. Australia sold Oldsmobile's through Holden dealerships till 1950, Buicks lasted till 1953, Chev & Pontiac lasted till 1968 when they made the Holden Brougham & then Statesman witch took care of the larger car market. Here is a pic of another right hand drive Olds I owned. Cheers Dago.
Here's a gasser influenced Olds Steve Stanford drew in R&C in the 80's. I didn't build it, but it's a huge influence on my 49 Fleetline.
That's the one. Adams had a Moon style fuel tank on the front passenger side floor. Rules soon followed outlawing the practice. Go figure. I remember the Howard's cam ads from the long ago that featured someone's 49-50 Olds Fastback. Was that Gene Adam's car or was it someone else's? Too lazy to root through my magazine archive.
Oldsmobiles are great. My dad has a 57 88 with the j2 in it.Also we have several 67 442's and other 60's cutlasses.Nothing runs like one.
I have never owned a j2. How much HP can you get out of one? Any examples or build up info? I have a small stack of 455's, I want to play with something different. Thanks, Richard
I have seen this one on the net, and found it for sale today. http://topnotchvehicles.com/v-web/gallery/album22/50_Olds_88_new_pics_018?full=1
