I have a death wobble problem at around 50-65 mph. I have a set of 35 Ford wires and bias ply Firestones. Everything is pretty much new up front and set correctly. When I get the wobbles, the steering wheel does'nt rotate, it shakes side to side. It's hard to hold it steady when it's doing this too. Talk about scary-I've drivin 50's VW busses with BAD steering boxes, but never anything like this. I've checked the rims and they have a slight side to side wobble, but would this be enough to shake everything so bad?

Could be. The faster you go, the more the wobble, right?

I had the same problem. I was told it was out of round tires. Can do a couple of things if they are out of round. Have them shaved (not many places have equipment to do this anymore) or have them road force balanced. Basically they match up the low side of the tire with the high side of the rim making everything as round as possible. Had this done with mine and it really helped. Just my 2 cents worth. Good luck! you are picking up harmonic vibrations that get worse as the speed increases.
and these ain't the beach boys 'good vibrations' fer sure.
maybe the rims need to be re-laced or high speed balanced.
**** dude...that will take all the fun out of cruising, getting the shakes like that.
take the ride to the best front end shop you have available...worth what ever it takes to straighten the problem out.

    later dudes

I had the same problem with my 34 ford 3 window. I had a straight axle in it and the front wheels got out of balance and I had the same problem. Had the tires balanced and the problem went away.

I had the same issue with my 24 T
I could only run 2200 RPM in Hi gear down the road any more the car would get outa control

You need to find someone that can true the tires to the rims (shave, grind, cut)
    Then balance rotating ***embly

Makes all the difference in the world
I found a guy to do my car when I was in Cal
My buddys said I was crazy to pay this guy $50 a wheel
I left his shop when he was finished went down PCH found nice long stretch I backed out at 3400 rpm in hi gear 30 tall tires 2.79 gears
    I was moving

I would check wit some of your local truck shops this seems to be common on big trucks
Also check with some of the guys that race
Just my thoughts and they do not count

I'm gonna check with one of the old school tire shops in my area and see what they say about the whole shaving thing. I am gonna pick up a damper today too and see if that helps.

Nine times out of ten, if the wobble comes in at a certain speed (Tire RPM) and goes away faster or slower than that speed...it's a tire balance problem.

We saw broken belts in radial tires all the time. That throws the tire out of round but you could feel it at all speeds 10,20,30 MPH. The vibration would change with the tire's RPMs. Every time the high spot comes around. If you feel it in the steering wheel, it's usually the front tires. If you feel it in the seat, it's often a rear tire.
